I think is a really good idea to offer travellers to stay in local people's homes. If you want to know the best places in the cities a recommendation of someone that lives there is usually really good. Also, sleep in a house without paying is a good point if you like travelling but you're not rich, and it allows you to share other things with your hosts that are much better than money
