Hi!! My name is Eleanor. I'm a 19 year old from England currently travelling south east Asia on my gap year! I'm travelling with my best friend from school (also on couchsurfing) and am loving it! I start my degree in war history in September and am so excited to start learning about the differences that drive people into conflict, so travelling has been so so helpful as its allowed me to see these cultural differences first hand. I'm interested in couchsurfing because it will be a great opportunity to meet more open minded, free thinking people and connect with them!!

The most amazing experience whist travelling has to be going to the elephant sanctuary (bit of a cliche I know.) As a vegetarian and someone who is passionate about animal rights it was really important for me to find a legitimate 'sanctuary' rather than somewhere that mistreats the elephants to gain prophet. The jungle sanctuary in chiang mai was just the place, it was so touching to see the tender way the elephants interacted with the boys that took care of them and wonderful to hear how they don't actually keep the elephants in an enclosure and let them roam free in the jungle. I was completely awestruck by how intelligent these creatures were and how human they were in their emotions, it really inspired me to act further to help in the conservation effort.
