Solo traveling throughout Mindanao, Philippines for almost 2 weeks in 2019, despite its bad reputation for being unsafe because of Muslim rebels. Its people (Muslim and not) were some of the most honest and warmest people I've ever met. The only part that scared me was the military checkpoints (stationed about every 3 km or so in some areas). This was because I always heard news about shootouts at checkpoints all the time.
