It's best to learn about a new place if you stay with a local. You can learn about local culture and traditions best if you see them not from aside as a stranger, but from the inside, participating. Hotels are all the same around the world, but each person's home is different. Especially if it is another country, another culture, another way of life. I like visiting friends at their homes and i like when friends visit my home - it never can be compared to just going out together. Hotel services, which you receive for the money you pay, are limited to the frames of the commercial aspect. But the warmth of your friend's hospitality is priceless.
