This new app is rubbish. June 2026 update. Hey Couchsurfers. I’m Matt from the UK. I can now host which I’m so happy about. The house is a mess as I’m decorating and currently the spare room hasn’t got a bed, but it is in the box waiting to be put up😂 Worst part is, I bought it 3 years ago haha. Don't worry though, I have a comfy sofa to sleep on. I live by myself in Darlington. You’ve probably never heard of it, but it’s actually the birth place of the first ever passenger railway, 200 years ago. So the town is full of history. Plus close to amazing cities of Newcastle and York. Some picturesque towns of Whitby and Saltburn. Also close to beautiful countryside like the Yorkshire dales and the Pennines. All can be done on a day trip when you stay. I’m a full time veggie and love the challenge of finding veggie versions of local dishes when I travel. I work on the railway as signaller. Think air traffic control but for trains, it’s pretty cool but a lot of responsibility. The best thing about my job is I have quite a bit of time off so I am always off galavanting and hosting people.

Love a night in with Netflix, I tend to watch the same shows on repeat haha. Brooklyn nine-nine and the whole Drag Race franchise are the main two. I also love documentaries, from crime series to air crash investigation. Will listen to most types of music, I used to work in a record shop so that introduced me to music I would never have listened too. I also have a monthly subscription to National Geographic magazine.

Theirs so many amazing things I’ve done while traveling. However getting my Padi Open Water Scuba Diving stands out as #1, I don’t like swimming and deep water, so I went so far out of my comfort zone, but was worth it.

I’m a bit of a geeky kind of guy, I love long walks in nature, hiking, love aviation and always trying to figure out what type the plane is that I just saw, I love crime documentaries, oh I’m a foodie too.
