I think it is a great way to travel because you have the opportunity to learn something about a place from the local side and you can get a deeper insight in culture, traditions and the style of living. In addition its a great way to expend his field of view because you can see how people live and what their conseption of the world is like.

Went with a friend to switzerland to hike the "pilatus" (a big mountain in the alps). We didnt had any plan so everything was spontanious but everything worked well and so it was one of my greatest trips I had. :)
