Hi! I’m Serena :) I'm 18 years old on my gap year, trying not to let COVID ruin it! So far this year I've been in Madrid for 4 months working as an au pair and English tutor. This summer I am thinking of doing a little Europe trip and have learnt that it really is the people, not the place, that make a trip or experience valuable.

I think slow travel and getting to know a place the way the locals do is the most authentic and exciting travel experience. Its also a great way to make new international friends and learn and share stories :)

Music: Indie/folk/rock - really depends on my mood (current favourites are Phoebe Bridgers, Men I trust, anything Sufjan Stevens, Frank Ocean, sticky fingers, Steve Lacy, girl in red, Weyes blood, COIN, Daughter, Novo Amor, Two Door cinema club etc) Movies: call me by your name makes my cry, foreign Netflix shows are the best! (Baby, La casa de papel, the hookup plan, elite), random indie films like 500 days of summer, eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, etc. I love poetry! Especially ones with beautiful imagery that really transports me! Some of my favourite poets are Derek Walcott and Anne michaels, Anne Carson, Arthur Rimbaud.

I can teach you film photography, I can help with your English (it’s my first language and I have experience as a tutor), or help speak a few words of Vietnamese (my second language)! I also have a few recipes such as tiramisu and hazelnut cookies that are the best I’ve ever eaten! I can also teach you calligraphy!
