Boulder, Colorado, United States
Are you looking for an excuse to ride bikes around Boulder, surrounded by potentially hundreds of fun-loving locals doing the same, in a mass of minimally-organized chaos, making stops at various parks for dance parties, and yelling "Happy Thursday!" to random passers-by? Is YES your answer? Then I have just the plan for you. Since most out-of-state visitors will not have their own bike or easy access to one, we will meet outside the Dushanbe Tea House because it is next to the bike path as well as 3 B-Cycle bike rental stations. You can ride any bike you have access to, of course, but the B-Cycle may be your most reliable and simplest option. There are a couple of Boulder locals that have agreed to lend a few bikes, and you might be able to find one last minute via our BCC WhatsApp group: https://chat.whatsapp.com/JjishKz5CI9HsZPCqMzEPJ The B-Cycle rental bikes can be rented for the evening using a "Casual Cruiser" rental from the kiosk. A rental for a few hours of riding around Boulder will cost in the neighborhood of $20. Of course, if you have access to another bike you can use that, but the B-Cycle is probably the best rental option for a once-per-visit kind of ride if you have no bike connection in Boulder. Boulder B-Cycle rate information: https://boulder.bcycle.com/how-it-works/rates Boulder B-Cycle stations map: https://boulder.bcycle.com/map Note that the "Day Tripper" rental option is a tad more in price, but maybe a good option if you want to use a B-Cycle earlier in the day or the next day. Just take note that typically when you have the B-Cycle out for more than 30 minutes that it will cost you money for each additional 30 minutes, and on this ride we will likely be out and about for a few hours. After we meet up at the tea house and have all the bikes we need, we will ride the bike path east to Scott Carpenter Park, where the main ride starts, with lots of random people (typically young-ish college kids, but there is a variety of folks who ride, young and old). If you can't meet us at the tea house or want to acquire a bike on your own, you can meet us at Scott Carpenter park by about 7:30. The ride is expected to start shortly after 7:30. Disclaimers / Warnings: -- Ride at your own risk. Due to the large number of people, the fact that this event can resemble chaos and does not have any real leadership, and is basically a party on bikes with no real plan, you should be comfortable with this kind of situation, including riding an unfamiliar bike in a large crowd, after dark, in an unfamiliar city. The crowd is friendly. While I don't think this is an unsafe activity for those comfortable with riding a bike at night, just be aware that this is at your own risk. -- There is no guarantee that the B-Cycle stations will have bikes available. Try to arrive early and/or use the B-Cycle map or web app to locate stations that have bike(s) available. -- Be responsible for your own bike and knowing how to return it to a B-Cycle station or its rightful owner. Due to the number of people, you may get separated from other CSers, so make sure you have a GPS and web-enabled cell phone so you can find the group and/or know how to return your bike. Some people like to use the app Glympse on their phones to locate other riders, so consider installing and using that (like "share my location" or "find my friends" features in some phones). -- If you were considering combining alcohol and the ride, do so at your own risk, and police have been known to give tickets for open containers that were clearly visible. -- Nobody really knows where the ride will end up going, but will stay within Boulder. (As a group of CSers we can decide to split off and do our own ride plan as well, for whatever reason)
