I visited this dog & cat shelter last week as a volunteer and while the facilities were actually better than I expected, I was saddened to see all the dogs living their lives on chains and in small cages, seemingly only getting to walk through the nice surrounding gardens if a volunteer shows up and offers to take them. While many of the dogs needed medical help which I'm not qualified to provide - I found that many simply could use a shower, a nail-clipping, a walk, a snack or a toy and some love. I did as much for the dogs on my last visit as I could on my own - but still left brokenhearted that I couldn't do more. And so I am trying to organize a group to come with me next week. There are some 400 dogs at the shelter. If we had 20~30 people, we could hopefully bathe, trim nails, offer a walk and a snack not just to a few, but ideally to ALL of the dogs there that day. This is not a commercial event or anything. I am not affiliated with the shelter in any way, although I am in contact with them. My own dog died from cancer recently. I miss him dearly and I see my pup in the eyes of every dog in that shelter. So I want to do as much as I can to help those poor pups out there at least a little bit. With every additional person who joins me, we'll be able to do that much more. --- What we'll do: Bathe, trim nails, clean up cages, walk & spend time with the dogs at the shelter. When: May 15~16 I will go on 15th in the morning. I'm taking my bike from Hanoi. Depending on who/how many people join, we can organize some rideshares. The shelter also kindly offered to let volunteers stay the night there if you'd like. What's needed: Everything and anything. I'm sure the shelter and the pups will appreciate donations of any kind. For our day there, any snacks and dog toys you can get would be great. Last time I brought a bunch of tennis balls which are pretty cheap and easy. Some dogs loved them, some didn't know what to do with them. I am checking with the shelter what we'd need to bring exactly.
