Makkasan, Bangkok, Thailand
Hello couchsufers, The Bangkok CS Community hosts a weekly meet-up for all locals, travelers, hosts, and friends. It is our belief that an organized meet-and-greet is a great way to meet new friends, find travel buddies, and get a safe introduction to Bangkok. Are you new in Bangkok? Looking for a host or a travel buddy? Are you a super busy expat trying to socialize? It doesn't matter if you are a local CSer, a surfer, or just passing through and happen to be in Bangkok, come and join us and make new friends! CS Bangkok is a super active group. There are always meet-ups, parties, book exchanges, travels, and coffee dates updated on the forum. This Wednesday meeting is a great constant. Come meet new friends! Hosts: Bring your surfers! Surfers: Bring your hosts! Bring an open mind, a willingness to laugh, a hunger for tasty Thai food, and a smile. Direction : We are located at a restaurant next to the BTS (Skytrain) Rachathewi Station exit 2. The restaurant is called: "THE SKATE BAR & CAFE " In general, they set us up outside of the restaurant along two long tables that have been pushed together. Cocowalk, from above, is shaped like a rectangle. If your back is to the BTS and your beautiful face is looking at Cocowalk, there will be three paths. A path to your left, a path in front of you (through the walk rather than through the drive), and a path to your right. The paths to your left and right are streets for cars, the path through Cocowalk is the path for people. If you are a person, follow this path. Take the middle path, past the Cocowalk sign, and "THE SKATE BAR&CAFE" is the first bar on the right hand side. You will see the board written down "Couchsurfing meet up" Directions from (Khao San Road) From KSR you have three options: (1) Bus You can take Bus number 24 or 511. Bus 511 is an AirCon Bus and will stop in front of the CocoWalk. When you get into the bus, tell the person you pay that you want to get off at “Ratchatewi [Rat-Cha-Te-Wee]. From the station, you should see CocoWalk. [Note: If anyone comes from KSR can you send MIMI a PM with details on pricing, sites, pick up location. I want to make this description a lot more precise.] (2) Taxi You can pick up a taxi from KSR. You just ask for BTS Ratchatewi [Rah-tah-Che-Wee] cocowalk. The driver will let you out next to cocowalk. [Note: If you take the taxi, can you please PM MIMI with pricing and timing, for future CSers] (3) Boat Take the boat on Khlong Saen Saeb from Phanfah Leelard Pier to Sapan Hua Chang Pier. For bus, perhaps also add-in info for those who may not be living in Khao San, e.g. those staying in some hotels/hostels along Sukhumvit, Thonglor, Ekkamai (coming from eastern provinces such as Koh Chang and can go). Bus from east area of Bangkok - along Sukhumvit Road and you can take Blue Bus Number 48. This will go right in front of Siam Square (most passengers will drop off here). Bus cost 7 Baht, or 12 Baht if Aircon. From Siam Square, look for Siam Discovery Building which is on the opposite side. See your map. Cross over, then continue walking northwards (with the road on your LEFT), you will pass a bridge and then a rock bar and you're metres away from Cocowalk. Phanfah Leelard Pier is behind the Mahakan Fort, end of Ratchadamnoen Road. You basically go to the democracy monument and follow the road until the fort. It's 10 baht one way. The boat service closes at 20:30. From Sapan Hua Chang Pier you cross the bridge to the BTS station and look on your right side. [Note: This is kind of a round-about way, but it is safer and easy if you are traveling alone. Groups of travelers should just take the taxi, because it should be cheaper if cost is split. Please PM Mimi with any updates or pricing/timing details so I can make this better for future CSers]
