About

Another instalment from the series of hiking escapades exploring the natural beauty of Victoria. This time around, it's Dandenong Ranges. Come along if you fancy some exercise and a beautiful day out in nature. This hike is moderate distance ~16km and relatively strenuous but has some excellent rewards! You'll move beneath a canopy of towering mountain ash eucalypts and massive tree ferns, crossing babbling creeks and passing through environments that feel remarkably ancient. There is a good chance of spotting swamp wallabies and wombats. The loop conveniently passes several iconic waypoints, including the tranquil Sherbrooke Falls and the lush Grants Picnic Ground, known for its vibrant birdlife. Bring some lunch with you, as we will find a quiet sunny spot to eat and relax together halfway during the hike. Short train ride from the city, or drive and park at Belgrave Rough program: 8am - meetup at Melbourne Central and taking the train to Belgrave (8:13am Dark Blue Line to Lillydale) 9:30am - meet up in Begrave train station Hiking for ~6h 5pm - return to the city What to bring: - shoes for hiking with good traction (the trail can get muddy) - clothes for changeable weather (something warm and something waterproof) - sunscreen & sunnies - food and snacks - At least 1.5L of water You'll need to leave pups at home — dogs aren't allowed on this trail.
