Erzsebetvaros, Budapest, Hungary
🌶️🛞🏃DIRECTIONS: Take the historic subway nr. 1 to "Hősök tere" (Heroes square) and walk 2 minutes. Enjoy the ride! Fun fact: this was Europe's first underground railway system on the continent (1896)! *** Dear fellow CSers, Welcome to the Regular Tuesday meeting of Budapest. This events has become a great tradition, and has now been running for 15+ years! It is a non-profit event preserving classic Couchsurfer aspects. Presentations, nice tips and local history lessons regarding Budapest if need be! You questions will be answered by the event host / organizer + regular attendees inhabiting this beautiful city! Please, find them / us if you need information and feel like learning more about the background history of town via fun facts! VENUE: The new venue from Spring-Summer 2024 will be Tütü Tangó, which was closed for the winter and reopened end of February this year. The name goes back to an underground bar 22 years ago, when all of Budapest was basically a ruin, no EU-joining yet, no movie industry, no mass tourism, no official closing ours at night, no citywide investors, no real estate boom or gentrification or anything alike to witness. Thus the original bar was opened by 1980's underground and alternative artists in the empty Dreschler Palace on Andrássy út (the main avenue!), now a W Hotel in front of the Opera House (prime location and luxury shops). The owners of nowadays Tütü Tangó on the other hand are a group of bohemian jazz musicians spearheading the avantgarde music scene of Budapest's youth culture ensemble. They already opened bars while finishing high school around 10 years ago, so the experience is there. We will have the meeting indoors, but there's a massive garden too. On Tuesdays they have film klub, so feel free to switch from our meeting to the other if stimulated so. On Wednesdays there's improvizative live music (not a drunk Open Mic like elsewhere in town - on the contrary!) this is crafty impromptu music with a lot of knowledge and practice practice behind. THE CURRENT EVENT IN A NUTSHELL: Come around to meet a varied mix of locals, travellers and expats for a nice chat and a drink! We have moved the event about 7 times (due to gentrification mostly), but didn't end up somewhere outside the city center buzz. Everything is fairly close, the party district (be warned though!), fancy café houses, other bars with jam sessions, small dive-bars too, and street food vendors. All within walking distance. If you'd like to continue the night after the meeting , just make an announcement. Surely others will want to join. In addition the organizers can then recommend places, which aren't tourist traps. (we have to break tent close to 22:00 / 10 PM and will head downtown directly afterwards) THE CS TUESDAY AND IT'S HISTORY: The original founder back in the late 2000s was András Földvári - one of the most experienced Hungarian travellers, collecting visits to airports and landing on more than 900+ spots by now -. You can learn about him and his vision from this video: Andras Foldvari - A Wanderer Devoted to Exploring New Worlds (check online) We have press feedback thanks to Caroline Bergwinkl, but the old link was archived in summer 2021: https://www.budapester.hu/2018/04/03/menschen-aus-aller-welt-kennenlernen This is the new link: https://www.archiv.budapester.hu/2018/04/03/menschen-aus-aller-welt-kennenlernen As said this event is obviously for free! We kindly ask you to order and pay your drinks separately at the bar. Thank you. See you all!
