ABOUT ME

Hello! I am Domen, a tall dark stranger from a small (and not very dark) country in Europe.

I was born in 1985. For the first few years of my life, I did absolutely nothing interesting. Then I went to grade school and became a huge nerd! Maybe getting a computer at an early age wasn't a good idea. Anyway, I managed to stop being such a huge nerd in high school! In high school I wrote short stories and socialized. Everyone thought I would become a humanities major at university, but instead I became an electrical engineer. Amusingly, it turns out I'm not really that good at practical stuff. For instance, changing a fuse is a big project. That's okay, though: I make my living exploring weird things like virtual reality and physiological measurements and robots! It's pretty neat! Work takes up eight hours of my time each day, but I try to occupy the rest of my day with exploring all the crazy things life has to offer!

Okay, sometimes I don't really do crazy things and just play computer games instead. Still, can you blame a guy? Also, sometimes I just wander around having coffee with people. Several coffees in a row, too! Besides coffee, I also enjoy bonsai trees. No, not drinking them, just taking care of them. Well, it's actually just one bonsai tree, but it has been a shining star of light on my desk for years and years.

Sadly I may need to leave that tree behind soon, because I'm about to move from Slovenia to Switzerland, where I will hopefully have many new adventures! I'm kind of nervous about that, but I remain optimistic that everything will turn out fine!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I had some really good times meeting up with a few people from CS in Switzerland for dinner, and an awesome adventure couchsurfing in Copenhagen! That's about it.

Interests

Books, movies, hiking, the great outdoors (but not too great because I still love indoor plumbing), computer games, bonsai trees, people (I wonder if it says something about me that I put people *after* bonsai trees), freaking out over dogs (whenever I see one I usually go "awwwwwwwwww, so cute"), science, biomedical engineering, virtual reality, cookies (cookies are awesome), spicy food (YUM YUM!), table tennis, getting crazy ideas and then not following through with them.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Apocalypse Now, Citizen Kane, Dr. Strangelove and Duck Soup are some of my favorite movies. But really, I'll watch pretty much anything as long as it's not too horrid.

Music: Most forms of rock and metal, though pop and house music are quite appropriate when I go out. I was a big Nightwish fan back in the day, but these days I seem to be listening mostly to NOFX and Bad Religion.

Books: I dunno, lots of things. Jorge Luis Borges, Umberto Eco, Neil Gaiman (and his British buddy in crime, Terry Pratchett), Joseph Heller's Catch-22, Hunter S. Thompson, the list goes on.
