ABOUT ME

I grew up mormon, moved away and changed my outlook on everything. I went to college at 22, and changed even more. On a whim I took a class on the spanish speaking world, studying history and literature and I got a scholarship to study abroad. I left the US and went to Ecuador and promptly fell in love with Latin America and travelling. I stayed an extra 3 months to travel, came home and then went back to Venezuela and worked in a cooperative bakery.

Now in between school and starting my job working with youth in El Salvador, I'm visiting friends and family that I haven't seen in a few years and enjoying having the time to read, write, and think about the world and what I want to do within it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've never lived in a stable enough place to be a great host, but I'll soon be in El Salvador for 2 years and I would like to be available to people traveling through, or at the very least to make pupusas together!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Most scenic surfing experience: on the beach of isla isabella in the Galapagos Islands camping in Lobo's volleyball court of the bar that only he and his friends go to. The location was beautiful, you could see the water out of the tent door, and awake to the sun rising. But SURPRISE, camping on the beach = mountains of sand in your tent, blowing in at all times. Needless to say my travelling partner and I fought over who would sleep on the inside.

Interests

I'm interested in building social change and changing the way we interact with each other! The hardest part of coming back to developed countries is returning to a more artificial way of life! I want more spontaneity and organicness!

Music, Movies, and Books

My 3 favorite movies are: Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Mean Girls, and When Harry Met Sally.

Jhumpa Lahiri is one of my favorite authors.

I can frequently be found listening to: Radiohead, top40, Kanye West, and Mirah.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Most recently I spent 6 weeks in Zambia and Malawi, where I was permanently dusty and sweaty. I hitchhiked from Malawi through Mozambique and after days and days of flagging down cars and ridiculous breakdowns, shady motels, and marriage proposals I got a ride in a semi truck to the coast of Mozambique. Feeling the moisture in the air and seeing the crystal clear light torquoise water made all the effort it took to get there completely worth it.
