The golden rule, good manners, and general goodwill impact my behavior.
I'm fortunate to have been an active member of the San Diego and Seattle Couchsurfing communities. I'm always looking to get involved with the local crowd and explore new cities with locals and travelers alike.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
In general, I check out CS events that I think will be entertaining. I've even been known to host an event here and there.
When I go long stretches without traveling, I love having travelers come to me. When I'm visiting a place I have no clue about, I can't think of a better way to get to know it than through the eyes of a local.
I think I'm most proud that I once hosted someone and helped show her such a good time that she quit her job and moved to San Diego within a month (she was considering it anyways).
Interests
Movies:
I like to copy scenes from films as a hobby (www.moviemimic.com). I watch over 60 a year in theaters and many more at home. I never turn down the opportunity to see a movie and enjoy most that I see across all genres. Though, I'm not the movie buff type, so I can't spill out volumes of obscure facts. I'm just an enthusiast that enjoys a good film.
Eating:
If you're surfing with me, we're probably going to eat a lot. If you're hosting me, then I'm going to want to eat a lot.
Volunteering:
I used to be active in Volunteer San Diego as a beach cleanup organizer and was a Big Brother for Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County. I usually look for fun ways to volunteer.
Other interests:
Basketball, Running, Snowboarding, Camping, Hiking, Indoor/Outdoor Rock climbing, Board games, Card games, Video games, Dragon boat paddling, Bungee jumping, Kayaking, Scuba diving, Juggling, Surfing, Sky diving, White Water River Rafting, Archery, Paintball, Zip lining, etc.
I'm not saying that I'm actively doing this list of hobbies, but that I'm pretty much down for anything and I want to do it all!

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies:
My second favorite film centers around a professor casually mentioning to his colleagues that he is a 14,000 year old caveman. His friends play along and attack the hypothetical scenario on the basis of biology, anthropology, psychology, and religion. It's called The Man From Earth.
Books:
My favorite book is a fictional story about learning to go on when it seems like there is nothing left for you. It carries through it a reverence for beauty in sadness. It's called Kitchen.
I'm also fond of The Little Prince for it's ability to inspire imagination in adults who have forgotten themselves, Ender's Game for not holding back despite the youth of the characters, and The Alchemist for it's unabashedly allegorical, feel-good journey. Honorable mention goes to the Harry Potter series for keeping me audibly entertained through long drives and gym sessions.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In Tokyo, long ago before I ever considered living here, I celebrated the graduation of Waseda University students with people I met that night. The women were dressed in beautiful, colorful kimonos and the men were clothed in slick, classy suits. They didn't speak much English and I didn't speak any Japanese but that didn't stop us from partying together until dawn.
