ABOUT ME
All of those lines below are 16 years old... :-) (from 2009)
Feb 2026 Update: First of all, my apologies for not having answered your requests for so many years...
Life got hold of me... :) and I kind of paused the Couchsurfing Idea as such, and haven´t been active at all...
Now, kids have grown, I have more time again and still the same appetite for exchanging with you. :)
Growing up in Germany, I travelled quite a bit since I turned 18. And, travelling still is my greatest passion...
During my studies, I extensively travelled Asia and moved to the Netherlands (which is a great place to live btw). Some more studying (marine biology), and travelling, and working in bars of course...:-) Stayed there until September 2009. Unfortunately, it was difficult to find work. Currently, I am living in Bremen and partly on Curacao (Dutch Antilles), doing a PhD on coral reefs.
As the times of loooong travels are pretty much over (for the moment at least), I will become Ryan Air's best friend and hopefully I will enjoy many long weekends in fabulous Eastern european, scandinavian and portugese cities...!!!! :-)
Personally, I like to smile, make jokes, laugh (also about myself), share food, share drinks, I am able to take naps in the most unusual situations, I love overnight flights, sitting in cafes in "new" cities looking at its citizens and soaking up the atmosphere. And, I would say I am addicted to "new food". Luckily, it doesn't show yet... but I love to try all kind of foods :-)
PHILOSOPHY
Never try, never know!
Better Regret the things you've done than the things you never did in your life!
Feb2026 Update:
Being 49, I had a job by now... :) until Dec 2025, I worked for an international NGO related to Water& Sanitation. I loved it a lot. While being based in Bremen, I was allowed to regularily visit many international colleagues in Tanzania, South Afria, Lesotho, India, Nepal, Buthan, Indonesia, Thailand, Senegal over the years. Almost moved to Buthan with family, but then, well, life happened I guess... still here :)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Feb2026 Update:
Exchanging with people - well, that has not changed :)
To remain curious about people and to give my 50 cent by installing trust in people in my everyday´s life.
To counteract all those frightening tendencies prominent in our daily media lifes & politics (!), whether it is religion, populism, politics as such which totally lost its moral grounds, it seems.
I want to show my kids that there are millions of ordinary people, everywhere, in every country, which love to get in contact with one another, share stories, life experiences and by that, help society to remain open, tolerant, giving, loving, laughing and so much more.
Looking forward to meeting you!
Alex
