ABOUT ME

I was born in St. Petersburg, Russia in very academic family. My Dad is a biochemist and my Mom is a doctor. Currently my brother, his wife, me and even my girlfriend are biochemists too. But it doesn't mean that we have no more interests. =)

Most of my time I spend in lab, but that's only because I love my work. Nevertheless sometimes I become tired of it and go traveling, usually with my family or friends. It can be usual sightseeing or tracking or rafting - anyway it's new interesting experience.

Anyway I never traveled alone. But situation has changed - now I'm on exchange program in Dresden, Germany and I need to explore everything by myself.

All my life I was one of the youngest persons in any company. After some time I got usual to it and now most of my friends are elder than me. After all it's much more worth and pleasure to spend time with someone more experienced than you, that's one of the best ways of learning. =)

PHILOSOPHY

I am an optimist. Also I believe that if you are honest with yourself and work hard you'll never be nervous about how your life is going on - everything will be OK, because you've made it so by yourself.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Now I'm not at home. Thus it's not possible for me to house anyone at the time. But since the beginning of 2013 - why not?

And of course I'm interested in traveling and exploring new countries and new cultures.

None now. But I'm wiling to try.

Interests

First of all - my research.

But anyway I'm a kind of social person, I can't stand being alone for long time. Thus I usually spend my time with other people.

For the free time most of all I like tracking.

I also like music, especially live, so I often visit music bars and concerts.

Music, Movies, and Books

I mostly read old literature. My favorite writer is Dostoevsky. I also like science fiction and modern alternative literature.

I like many different kinds of music. From blues and hard-rock to ethnic and electric music. But especially I like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Depeche Mode.

I like different types of movies. Practically all if they are good. The things I don't like are horror, realistic violence and too rude humour. On of my favourite movies is The Shawshank Redemption.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When we were in Pamiro-Alay mountains in the North of Tajikistan, we had some troubles with one of mountain passes we forced. When we climbed up to it we finally realized that the opposite down-going side of it was completely covered with snow (it didn't meant to be) and almost vertical. We had no ropes and ice-axes, only walking sticks. So we used them to climb down. We were going one by one with 5-10 minutes interval and I was the last. When I was there alone waiting for my turn, it was one of the best moments in my life. On the left I saw incredibly beautiful mountains for many kilometers away, on the right I saw the sun setting behind the nearest mountain shining through a cloud going up to me out of valley. Then it reached me, it became to cold for me there and I started my way down. Unfortunately I have no photos of this moment, but my memories are much better than any photos anyway.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have no special practical skills. I'm mostly experienced in my professional area - molecular biology. So if you have some questions about genetic engineering or RNA-interference I will be happy to answer you. =)
