About Me

I like train rides, hitchhiking, going on long walks, libraries and cemeteries.

By profession, I am a German lawyer with a focus on international family law and German citizenship law.
But I really try to spend more time studying history, planning the next journey, or writing about previous adventures.

Between 2009 and 2023, I took a long break from my job as a lawyer and lived in several other countries and continents. This slow way of travelling gave me the opportunity to really get to know a place, to learn about the culture, the history, the people, the political and social aspects of a country. Due to my curiosity, I regularly get accused of being a spy. In Iran, I spent one week in prison because of that. - Watch my TEDx talk if you want to hear how that worked out: www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkdgFEzm0tU

In 2023, I got a bit tired of constantly living out of a backpack and moved to Chemnitz, which will be the European Capital City of Culture in 2025. I am happy to finally have a place again where I can host Couchsurfers.

I am also on a quest to visit all the centers of Europe: https://andreasmoser.blog/2022/08/11/journey-to-the-center-of-europe/ - and then write a book about what these random places have taught me about our fascinating continent. Because sometimes, a little village in the Carpathians can tell you more about European history than cities like Berlin, Rome or Paris.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Hosting people is like a holiday coming to my house. (Also, I need to have Couchsurfers coming to my place once a month, or I would never clean the apartment.)

When I travel, I like to meet with Couchsurfers to understand their place better, to get some local advice, to go hiking together.
