About Me

Back to Couchsurfing after a pretty long hiatus. Left Spain in 2016, lived in Poland for about six years and then moved to Germany in early 2021. Who knows what's next!

Also, I know I live in Germany and I should most definitely speak German, but unfortunately that's not the case- please do not send requests in German as I will not read them.

CURRENT MISSION

I am a part of several expat groups on facebook and I've always wondered what has made people there move to another country. This has made me start a sort of "humans of" thing, however only with expat/migrant stories. If you do not live in your home country and you would like to share your story, please drop me a line :)

My life got a bit weird since Covid so I'm mostly trying to turn it around and little by little go back to some old hobbies such as travelling and writing.

ABOUT ME

I want to think that all the places I've seen and all the people I've met have made me a fairly open minded and tolerant person. I try to understand others and not judge as much as possible.

I like to laugh at everything, starting with myself.

I also rather suck at describing myself but hey, feel free to interrogate me if that may help convince you I'm not a total creep who will sell your organs.

On an unrelated note, I think mandolins are extremely cool.

PHILOSOPHY

Live and let live. Respect and you will be respected. I do not accept any kind of racism or discrimination, be it sexual orientation, religion or anything else. Those issues really matter a lot to me. Fortunately, I don't think there's a lot of that going on here on CS :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

It keeps getting bigger and bigger! It's obviously impossible to really click and become good friends with every couchsurfer I meet, but I haven't had a single bad experience, and I've actually made some pretty good friends whom I keep in touch with. I love hearing people's stories, they help me understand the places I go to in a better way. And I can't wait to have my own place to host much more often!

When you leave my flat, I would honestly appreciate a message when you get to your next destination to tell me you're ok. It's good to know you're safe and it's also nice to see that you didn't forget about me the moment you left, it makes me feel you use CS for more than just a free bed.

Interests

Music, travelling, sports, reading, meeting people from all over the world, music, walking around aimlessly, hiking...

I guess writing should be included here too. In January 2014 I started a blog: I have abandoned it a little bit lately but I'll go back to it. It's mostly about music and travelling. but I try to make it relatively original.

Music, Movies, and Books

Not interested in a particular kind of movies (ok, maybe sci-fi?), same with books, but I enjoy watching a movie from time to time. Regarding books, my favourites are the LOTR trilogy and 1984.

I absolutely adore music. Old rock, some blues and jazz, heavy metal, folk (slowly becoming my favourite kind of music), medieval, classical... a bit of everything. But nothing can beat Jethro Tull!

Other bands or artists apart from the mighty Jethro Tull... The Alan Parsons Project, Eric Clapton, Dire Straits, Iron Maiden, Alan Stivell, Leonard Cohen, Nightwish, Al Stewart, Alasdair Fraser, Bob Dylan, Andrés Calamaro, Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span, Bruce Springsteen, Eric Woolfson, Fleet Foxes, J.J Cale, Frank Sinatra, Kepa Junkera, Jordi Savall, Louis Armstrong, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Loreena McKennitt, Luar na Lubre, Malicorne, Ozric Tentacles, Quantum Fantay, Pink Floyd, Paolo Conte, Simon & Garfunkel, Paul Simon (solo), Ruper Ordorika, Rare Folk, The Chieftains, A Hawk and a Hacksaw, Bach, Mozart, some film soundtracks (Amélie!!), Gwendal, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Corvus Corax, Cali, Angelo Branduardi, Joan Manuel Serrat, Amancio Prada, Mandolinman, La Mandrágora, Maria Kalaniemi, Edguy, Oaksenham, Shooglenifty, Ayreon, Marillion, Leahy, Snaarmaarwaar, Sourdeline, L'Ham de Foc, Pentangle, Bonga, Kalenda Maya, Tadeusz Nalepa, Manel ... there's so much stuff out there!!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Surviving a Polish wedding! Actually I've survived six of those so far.

Erasmus in Rzeszów, Poland. Best year of my life. So many experiences. And of course, I changed (for good, I'd say). Or maybe I just discovered new things about myself, I don't know.

Spending most of the night in an abandoned police station in the middle of absolutely nowhere counts? (somewhere in Slovakia).

I saw something which I thought was pretty amazing. I met a band of street musicians in Germany this summer. A Spanish guy, two Slovakian guys, a Slovakian young woman and a Polish young woman. They told me they have been travelling all over the world by bike for a few years; they learn folk songs from the places they travel to and play them wherever they go. Impressing, in my opinion.

I recently started writing a music blog! Ok, that's not amazing at all... but I'm having so much fun writing this stuff! Edit: not so recently now. It has been almost six years!

Oh... and I went to a Jethro Tull concert.

Teach, Learn, Share

Well, I don't really know what I can teach here, but there's something I'd like to learn. I'm interested in folk music from all over the world, so if you can recommend me folk bands from where you come from, I'd appreciate it.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Endless (and hopefully meaningful) talks, jokes about everything and everyone (that includes you and that includes myself), silly faces (I make those quite often) and stuff like that. If I'm hosting you, I'll probably cook for you as well.

If you have read this massive rant that is my profile and we finally meet, I'll buy you a beer. It's the least you deserve for your patience.
