About Me

Private lawyer, passionate about international development, and social entrepreneurship. I believe communication creates reality and is the best tool for personal and political development. I'm also a great fan of sustainable tourism and hospitality.

I consider myself a very proactive person; someone who make things happen. At the same time, I truly believe in serendipity and the power and beauty of being curious, flexible and open to find what I need while I'm not looking for it, even if I'm not conscious of that need.

As Lang Leav once said: "How much of our lives are predetermined? How much of it is left to chance?"

In my opinion, the most effective way to live and take advantage of our passage through this world is to look for balance in everything we have to deal with, always with the mind very open. That´s why I believe we can grow, experience, learn, teach, love and suffer, give and receive, travel, work, and enjoy, all at just the right amount.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I sincerely enjoy the idea of creating lasting connections and long-term friendships through the dynamics of this platform. I have always been passionate about spending quality time with people from all walks of life, while I try to understand their life experiences by hearing their stories, creating new ones together, and unlearning.

As I see it, Couchsurfing is not only a platform to host or get hosted but a whole culture we decide to be part of; a whole other manner to understand human interaction based on TRUST. When I open the doors of my house to so many special people, I exercise/put into practice important things for me such as kindness, solidarity, and authenticity.

I have to add that I have never had a bad experience using CS, neither hosting nor being hosted. I definitely love hosting and for almost 4 years I was a super host on Airbnb until I moved abroad.

[When sending your couch request, consider that it's always nice to explain to your potential host why you think they would be a good fit for hosting you].

Interests

I like reading, being in nature, and participating in social mobilizations. I also enjoy the time I spend with family and friends, either old and close or new ones. I also like to do physical activities, bike around, work out, hike, climb, and be active. I would love to dabble in swimming, yoga (or any other flexibility exercise), piano, and maybe singing.

When it comes to intangible things, I have to say that I am passionate about learning in general. I love listening and reading about historical or cultural topics and religions/spirituality, even though I don't practice any religion..

Music, Movies, and Books

Favorite authors: José Saramago, José Luis Sampedro and Gabriel García Marquez.

Books: Les Misérables; Blindness; One Hundred Years of Solitude, The Little Prince, and many others.

Music: Everything, depending on the moment and mood. I also like dancing quite a lot and I sing for myself all the time.

Movies: Mainly historical topics, movies based on true events, dramas (focused on political power, law/lawyers, or human experience are my favorites), and, more recently, some Sci-Fi. Sometimes I could watch a comedy to get out of the routine, but I rarely like them at the end. A great movie I liked is The Pass.

TV shows: The Crown; How to Get Away With Murder; Game of Thrones; Pose; Money Heist; House of Cards; Chernobyl; Succession.

Podcasts: Radio Ambulante; TED en Español; El Orden Mundial; and many others about philosophy, business, international news, or some tech.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

- Improved my confidence and overcame shyness when I started college.

- Did a five-day road trip from the East Coast to the West Coast of the US in a truck with my two cats and my car towed in the back.

- Climbed the highest mountain in the Caribbean, Pico Duarte.

- I've never, ever, ever felt the tiniest temptation to open a TikTok account!

- Stayed in a nudist hotel/farm in Colombia for a few days.

- Ride a motorcycle as main transport when living in Santo Domingo.

- Traveled to Haiti without knowing a word of Haitian Creole.

- Quit my job in the government and left everything behind to move abroad.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach some Spanish and/or English; I can share some quality time and I would love to learn/practice yoga and journaling with any guest wiling to help me out with that.
