I believe art is a creative way of communicating emotions and sensations. My works are not paintings. My art consists in the creation of short films, photographs, illustra- tions, and photo sequences that narrate situations and the emotions felt. I have always been drawn to art as a means to express my creativity in several sectors.
Recently in 2015, I met a somewhat strange person who awakened me to a new way of expressing sensations through photography. The encounter changed something inside me. I felt my emotions expand, a new power to get my mind to evoke more thoughts. I started making photographs and experimenting with videos, and produced sequences of 8 photographs conveying different emotions.
The first sequence is entitled Hell. It explores the theme of unexplainable pain as might be felt in hell. I am falling from above, a fall that is reflected in a parallel world inside me, the world of emotions. The heart is a subject dealt with in several of my works, indeed I included the shape of a heart made of ring shank nails, a metaphor where every nail represents a memory, and every memory a stage in my life. At every stage there has been joy and sadness. It is interesting to see what happens when I feel some sensations, because I make something without knowing what I am doing. It is as if I were sleeping with my eyes open.
The second sequence, a continuation of the first, represents the phase after the fall from the sky, having reached the bottom of hell. The photographs depict details of my body. The hue is a bit cool, but evokes the colours used by Caravaggio in his painting. There are stains of gold colour to convey a sense of pity and shame. There is no love or enjoyment, it is like an empty life lived in darkness. These works are not fully inten- tional, as I said I did not know what I was doing, I just followed my thoughts freely. In another sequence I am in a room, holding a tennis racket. It is the melancholy look of a tennis player in a lost match against himself and against the world.
My name is not an art name. I believe my name is not a coincidence. I can explain the emotions through the sound of music, too. Since when I was a child I found a way to express my thinking through the form of art. In my art I tend to use subliminal messages through real objects and sometimes I do not use anything. The message can be found in a facial expression or a monochrome background.
