I can afford a hotel, but a hotel never gives me a window looking over another life.
A Jordanian in Riyadh - Al Rawda quarter. Kids doctor, technicolor persona, cultural chameleon. My distinct mark is my honesty with an eerie dry sense of humor. My love language is dark chocolate. I love good food, cooking, baking, walking, talking, hangouts, and sleeping twelve hours whenever I can. Super type A++ personality, analytical, overthinker. I speak raw english but I do not speak your culture. This is something you have to teach me.
Good reasons to surf a doctor's couch:
1- we always have new stories to tell. 👨⚕️🤕💉🩸🫀⚰️🦠🤢💊🤒
2- we are good listeners and ready to offer you a napkin. We will always let you win an argument.
3- we won't smother you or be too clingy, we eat 5-day old cold pizza, 3-day old sardines and pretty much anything classified as food for humans
4- you can't gross us out and you can fart and burp shamelessly in our presence
5- we are heavy weight party animals.
6- because of our hectic work and lifestyle, we can go to the cinema, that kebab place, shopping, the beach, bowling, hiking and that night club in one day.
7- We are trained mouth-to-mouth CPR, Heimlich and many other lifesaving tricks.
8- free medical checkups - don't be shy to show me your rash.
9- bacteria-free hosting conditions.
10- We are sworn to keep secrets. Go ahead and tell me about your darkest secrets, past traumas and wicked desires.
I want my home to be a safe place of rest and friendship for world citizens worn out by the challenges of traveling or life. So, if you are gay or straight, religious conservative or not, conformist or a circle breaker, life fucked you up or did not, have a home or had made many homes along your travels, you are welcome for who you are, and I would love to hear your story. You will basically share life with me during your stay.
Never push your beliefs on me. If you sincerely believe you are a lampshade, I am happy to give you a lightbulb.
If you bring me a fridge magnet, a postcard, or something yummy from your country, I will write your name on my wall with letters of fire. I am open-minded to a healthy expression of the wide diversity of human novel ways of constructive thinking 💡🤔🤝 I am Christian but not religious 🙂. Trust me , it works better. I judge no one, not even myself.
I believe that nothing I have is truly mine. It’s all grace given to us by an infinitely loving God who shines His sun and sends rain over everybody! To serve others is a privilege. Giving is better than taking.
I am a people's person. I prefer 1-on-1 encounters. I get really excited when I make friends and share time and stories along my travels or theirs. I am a foodie, extrovert, analytical mind, critical of this world, life loving, intolerant to injustice, homophobia, religious hypocrisy, judgment and self-righteousness If you suffer from any of these illnesses or think you are better than other homosapiens, I might be able to help with your treatment 🛠️🗜️🩴
Saudi Arabia is a very welcoming country. People here are extremely nice, and proud of their traditions. Saudi Arabia is opening up more and more to the world than before BUT this DOES NOT mean you become a smart ass with a big mouth. Be reasonable with what you say or tweet (and yes they are capable of filtering out smart asses). Enjoying this country depends heavily on your attitude. Btw, saudi women cover up because they want to, their right to remove the burka is protected by the law. Please accept cultural differences. A strong woman is a modest woman. Brain is the new sexy.
Please be mindful of the following:
1- leave your shoes outside
2- be clean and smell good. See #23
3- accept hospitality.. just drink it!
4- expect more interaction with your host.
5- don't sneak out and leave. Say goodbye first.
6- be clear about your plans
7- respond to your messages and update your host. It is considered rude not to answer your messages within a reasonable amount of time
8- don't take your host for granted
9- don't expect your host to be your driver and don't hint about it. If they want to help you, they will
10- expect all kinds of questions- you represent your country and culture
11- show interest
12- put your phone/laptop away
13- insist on helping around the house.
14- refuse something 3 times- we assume that you are shy at first.
15- bring a small gift
16- sleep where your host tells you
17- don't burden your host with dietary restrictions if you haven't discussed it before. Just eat and keep your animal rights activism, cows farting methane, etc. with your shoes outside.
18- there is the possibility you be kissed - greeting kiss, mam-man, woman-woman
19- abide by house rules, don't keep your host waiting for you, don't drink alcohol or use drugs
20- treat the house as your own (or not in rare cases)
21- please dress conservatively.. please, just this time.
22- Saudis are the kings of frankincense and perfumes. Please at least shower.. see #2
23- see #22
24- If you have tattoos that could be seen as culturally offensive, please cover them. Remove your earrings if you are a guy
TOURIST SCAMS (IN JORDAN NOT SAUDI ARABIA):
I'M WRITING IN CAPITALS TO DRAW ATTENTION. YOU WILL NOT HELP JORDAN'S ECONOMY BY PAYING AT THESE PLACES.
Mt NEBO. THIS IS WHERE MOSES SUPPOSEDLY SAW THE PROMISED LAND AND DID NOT GET TO TASTE ANY OF THE HONEY OR MILK THERE. THERE WAS HARDLY ANY HONEY OR MILK, IT WAS THE BEGINNING OF AN ERA OF BLOODSHED THAT CONTINUES TO OUR DAY. YOU'LL SEE SOME SLABS OF ROMAN MOSAICS AND A BRASS SCULPTURE OF A SNAKE FIGURE WHICH SHOULD HAVE RATHER BEEN PLACED IN SINAI. CLIMB THE HILL ACROSS THE STREET AND YOU WILL GET EXACTLY THE SAME VIEW, WHICH IS ONLY CLEAR AND NICE AFTER 9:00 P.M, YOU WILL SEE PALESTINE LIGHTS AND VERY LITTLE OF THE GARBAGE LAYING AROUND.
THE BAPTISMAL SITE. THEY WILL CHARGE YOU AN ARM AND A LEG TO SEE A SWAMP. KEEP YOUR MOSQUITO REPELLENT WITH YOU. IT IS NOT THE ACTUAL CORRECT GEOGRAPHICAL SITE. THE TRUE SITE ACCORDING TO BIBLICAL GEOGRAPHY IS MUCH FURTHER NORTH. ANYWAYS THE NARRATIVE THAT YOU WILL HEAR FROM THE TOUR GUIDE IS FAR FROM TRUTH.
PETRA AT NIGHT IS MY FAVORITE OUTRAGEOUS TOURIST SCAM. NO SILENCE, TOURISTS WILL CONTINUE TO TALK, YOU WILL BE SERVED A SMALL CUP OF TEA AND YOU WILL LISTEN TO A REPRODUCIBLE SILLY JOKE, BY A BEDU AND 3 TO 5 MINUTES OF BEDU SINGING WITH THE ONE-STRINGED LYRE. I COULD HARDLY UNDERSTAND IT MYSELF. THAT'S IT. THEIR ATTITUDE IS.. YOU DID NOT LIKE IT? TOO BAD, YOU DON'T HAVE TO COME AGAIN!
THE CITADEL. APART FROM A BEAUTIFUL AMMAN PANORAMA THERE'S HARDLY ANYTHING ELSE TO SEE.
MORE THAN 5 HOURS OF JEEP TOUR IN WADI RUM. IT ONLY MEANS MORE FREQUENT AND LONGER REST STATIONS AND THREE TIMES THE PRICE. PLEASE DO ALL YOUR TRANSACTIONS THROUGH THE TOURIST OFFICE NOT INDIVIDUAL BEDOUINS. AND NO, THEY ARE NOT HOSPITABLE AND THEY DO NOT LIKE YOU. THEY LIKE YOUR MONEY! I'M NOT GOING TO EVEN MENTION THE THINGS THEY SAY IN ARABIC WHEN THEY ARE SURE THE TOURISTS WON'T UNDERSTAND
THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARK IN MADABA.. RUN DOWN, DECAYING AND POORLY PRESERVED. TOO SMALL TO BE CALLED A PARK.
MUKAWER- MADABA.. TEDIOUS TRIP TO SEE VERY LITTLE OF A DOUBTFUL HISTORICAL INFORMATION.
MAEEN HOT SPRINGS.. DON'T GET ME STARTED!
FEMALE TRAVELERS TO PETRA PLEASE BE CAREFUL OF LOVE RATS THERE. SEE THIS INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT FOR A THOROUGH NARRATIVE. https://instagram.com/shakira_the_donkey?utm_medium=copy_link
A SPECIAL NOTE FOR LGBT TRAVELERS, I GET ASKED ABOUT THIS QUITE OFTEN:
JORDAN IS A SAFE COUNTY FOR LGBT TRAVELERS BUT NOT ALL TOWNS ARE OPEN-MINDED ABOUT THIS. THE COUNTRY IS CONSERVATIVE AND JORDAN DOES NOT CRIMINALIZE LGBT LIFESTYLE IF YOU ARE OVER 21, AS LONG AS YOU MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS AND LIVE YOUR PRIVATE LIFE WITHIN THE CONFINES OF YOUR OWN PROPERTY. DON'T PUSH IT UP THE GOVERNMENT'S OR PEOPLE'S NOSES. DON'T FEEL THE URGE TO TELL PEOPLE ABOUT YOUR SEXUAL ORIENTATION BECAUSE NO ONE GIVES A FUCK. THERE ARE VERY FEW LGBT FRIENDLY VENUES. DATING APPLICATIONS ARE NOT SAFE HERE. I SUGGEST....FORGET ABOUT SEX AND ENJOY YOUR TRIP.

Music, Movies, and Books
I am not much of a TV or movie guy unless with others. I have Netflix so I don’t sound too eccentric but I rarely watch it. I listen to what resembles me.. that can soothe me after a long day. Adonis, Omar Khairat, Alaa Wardi, 2Cellos, Piano guys, Dalida, Stjepan Hauser, Kendji Girac, Agustín Galiana, Zaza, Adele, to name a few.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I came first place in a race against 150 million sperms! Battled depression and cancer. avoided paying a restaurant bill once by washing dishes (a lot of dishes).
Went to work with multiple kiss marks/bruises on my neck without realizing it. Scandalous!
Teach, Learn, Share
Don't grow up.. its a trap!
