About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To enjoy life for the journey, not the destination... And to visit 120 countries by the time I'm 30.

ABOUT ME
Sophomore (2nd year) at NYU's Abu Dhabi campus pursuing a double degree in Comp Sci and Economics, and a relative newcomer to Abu Dhabi. I enjoy travelling, and have recently decided to adopt a new philosophy to visiting places, travelling to live, instead of travelling to visit. I hope to put this into practice from Summer 2015, ultimately culminating in becoming a professional travelling hobo who build start-ups on the side.

Willing to host, but be aware that you will be staying on university accommodation, so be prepared :)

PHILOSOPHY

"See a need, fill a need"
"The only thing that is impossible is impossibility itself"

Sometimes, all it takes is one person, to ask the right questions, push the right buttons, and lead the world in the right direction past a turning point. (From the Pendragon book series)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm a sophomore (read: second year) in university now, but I have the allowance of having visitors overnight. If you come and stay, you'll either sleep on the couch in my room (I share this place with 4 roomates) or you can crash in our floor lounge (a common area with a couple of sleepable couches too.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I Couch-surfed a little while I was in the UK doing my A-levels. They were generally cool experiences, and I enjoyed meeting the people I did and learning about their city.

Recently hosted my first ever couchsurfer, and am all the more richer for the experience. Looking forward to hosting more people in the future!

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: I read practically anything and everything, but by far, the best books I've read are the Pendragon Series by D.J. MacHale, Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell and the Ender's Game series by Orson Scott Card.

Music: Lifehouse, Savage Garden, Train, Muse, Rascal Flatts, ASTR. Listing them all out here would probably take too long. I tend to like individual songs rather than albums.

Movies: I like introspective movies, the kind that hit deep within you, and force you to re-evaluate your perspective on life. Often, I find myself thinking about films I've watched more than a month ago. Films that have inspired me: Mr. Nobody, Transendence, Toy Story 3 (ah heck.. The whole Toy Story series really)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The sunrise over the South China Sea. I used to live on the Eastern Coast of Malaysia, just 100m from the beach. Every morning, just before 7, the sun would slowly peek over the surface of the sea, and then, within a few minutes, the whole sky would go red, and in full glory, the sun would burst out like a chick out of it's egg, and rise. Slowly and majestically it would climb higher and higher. I used to cycle to school extra early just so that I could stop and watch it rise.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can talk and discuss on pretty much anything, as my mates can probably attest from the conversations we've had that sometimes reach to the wee hours of the morning. That being said, education is probably the topic closest to my heart, and for which I am extremely passionate about, and this is mainly because I feel that we could do much better collectively to educate the future generation of our species than we do now.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good conversation, relatively good food (university dining hall fare), a pretty intimate knowledge of how to get around Abu Dhabi, and what to do besides shopping and the malls, and a chill environment with cool places to work and mingle (We're an American university, NYU's portal campus in the Middle East, so its an interesting mix of both worlds on campus).

Countries I’ve Visited

France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Sri Lanka, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In
