Overview
About Me
I'm Avi—someone who recently left the security of a 9-to-5 job to embrace the uncertainty and beauty of life on the road. I'm not here to make grand statements, but simply to learn, share, and connect in meaningful ways. My background in law and political science has given me tools to analyze systems, but my travels have taught me that real understanding comes from listening to people's everyday experiences.
I approach each journey with humility, knowing that every place and person has something valuable to teach me. Whether it's sharing a simple meal with a host family or learning about local governance from a village elder, I cherish these authentic exchanges more than any tourist attraction. Travel, to me, isn't about checking destinations off a list—it's about slowing down enough to truly see, hear, and appreciate the places I'm privileged to visit.
What excites me most are those unplanned moments of connection: when a casual conversation with a stranger reveals surprising common ground, or when helping with daily chores becomes a window into another way of life. I don't pretend to have answers, but I bring genuine curiosity and respect to every encounter.
If we meet, you'll find me eager to listen to your story, help however I can, and maybe share some Indian chai recipes in exchange for your local wisdom. I believe the best journeys are those where we come as students of the world, leaving each place a little wiser and each connection a little richer.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I’m here because I’ve learned that the most memorable parts of travel aren’t the sights you see, but the people you meet. Couchsurfing, to me, is about that simple but extraordinary idea: that a stranger’s home can become a place of connection, and that sharing stories over a home-cooked meal often teaches you more than any guidebook.
As a host, I want to offer travelers what I’ve been so grateful to receive in my own journeys—a warm space to rest, honest conversations, and maybe a few clumsy attempts at cooking each other’s comfort foods. As a guest, I hope to listen more than I speak, to absorb the rhythms of daily life wherever I am, and to leave every stay having exchanged something meaningful, even if it’s just laughter or a new perspective.
At its heart, I see Couchsurfing as a quiet rebellion against a world that often feels disconnected. It’s a reminder that generosity and curiosity still bridge divides—one cup of tea, one shared sunrise, one impromptu living-room dance party at a time. I’d be honoured to be part of that exchange with you.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
One of the most transformative experiences of my life was travelling solo across India for months with nothing but a backpack. I didn't just visit places - I immersed myself in them: waking up before dawn to chant with monks in Himalayan monasteries, learning to fish with Kerala's boatmen as they shared stories about changing sea currents and getting adopted for a month by a Rajasthani family who taught me to cook over a clay stove.
What made it extraordinary wasn't the miles covered, but how the journey reshaped me. Getting lost in Varanasi's labyrinthine alleys taught me the kindness of strangers. Watching the sun rise over Rann of Kutch's salt deserts showed me the power of solitude.
These weren't vacations, but chapters in an ongoing lesson about our beautifully complex world. Now I carry those memories - and the humility they instilled - wherever I go next.
Teach, Learn, Share
One of my most meaningful experiences was travelling solo through Northeast India, where I lived with Indigenous communities, cooked meals over open fires, and trekked through misty hills. I'll never forget falling during a jungle hike, or a tribe family who taught me to make bamboo shoot curry while sharing stories about their changing world. Those weeks of simple living - sleeping in tents, bathing in icy streams, laughing with new friends under starry skies - showed me how much we can learn when we step outside our comfort zones.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I’d love to cook simple Indian meals together—my chai and paneer come with free stories about life in Delhi. Happy to help with chores, and if you’re up for it, I enjoy conversations about travel adventures, how policies affect real people, or the meaning we find in unexpected places. Mostly, I just believe that good company and shared tasks make for the best memories.
