About Me
ABOUT ME
I've been a farmer wannabee most of my life. I live in town now, I call my home Small Ax Homestead, an in-town micro-farm, music hall and free-will inn. All of these things are works in progress! I live with my teenage son and we have two cats and a large, super-friendly dog.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have done more hosting than guesting. I like to meet people, especially in travel. And I feel like sharing my home, trusting others and having fun just makes the world a friendlier place!
Interests
Plants and animals, both domestic and wild—I'm amazed by them all and humbled by the complexity and diversity of life. Human culture and the arts, how we elevate the elements around us, this is fascinating too, and often delicious. I love good food and want to know where it comes from. Long ago I brewed beer, now I appreciate wine and especially ciders, and living in a fruit-growing region allows me to delve into both. In recent years I've come to appreciate and love tea, its complexity, tradition and culture. I enjoy exploring the botany of places I visit, and comparing the similarities and differences. I enjoy talking about these things with other enthusiasts and sharing our random bits of knowledge and experience.
And music? It keeps me alive. I'm a perennial beginner on instruments and voice—maybe what I'm best at is appreciating and dancing. Music festivals are now how I vacation most, one weekend at a time.

Music, Movies, and Books
I love bluegrass and newgrass, reggae and rock, quirky singer-songwriters, anything with a beat and good lyrics. I like some kinds of jazz but don't know enough to say which ones ;-). Same with classical. Violin and cello often move me deeply, same for oboe. I'm a lapsed reader; and love to attend our annual film festival, but I'm so sick of violence as entertainment that I am cautious about movie-going anymore. OK, one favorite movie? Groundhog Day.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
