About Me

Bassem here, a curious explorer from Egypt who thrives on meaningful conversations, spontaneous adventures, and authentic cultural exchange. I believe the best parts of travel are the people you meet along the way—and the stories you share over coffee or a sunset walk.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I travel not just to see places, but to meet people who call those places home. Couchsurfing helps me connect beyond the surface—through shared meals, laughs, and experiences that no guidebook could ever offer. I’m here to make lifelong friends, not just pass through.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: I read a lot—and I read widely. From the haunting prose of Shirley Jackson to the philosophy-laced narratives of Naguib Mahfouz and the dark satire of Orwell, books help me explore reality and fantasy at once. I'm especially drawn to Arabic literature, dystopian fiction, and philosophical thrillers. If you enjoy deep conversations about identity, freedom, or even time travel and the future of humanity—we’ll get along just fine. And I’d love to exchange favorite books with you!

Movies: I’m a huge fan of movies and series across all genres—especially psychological thrillers, crime dramas, and mind-bending sci-fi. I love intense, layered stories like Shutter Island, Gone Girl, Dexter, The Prestige, and The Exorcist. I’m also really into detective and crime series like Sherlock, True Detective, Breaking Bad, The Mentalist, and How to Get Away with Murder. Supernatural and horror themes always catch my eye too—think Penny Dreadful, Bates Motel, American Horror Story, and The Strain. For a dose of action and fantasy, I go for The Dark Knight Trilogy, The Avengers, X-Men, Arrow, and The Flash. I can’t resist good sci-fi like Inception, Interstellar, Fringe, Sense8, or Black Mirror. But I also enjoy lighter, witty comedies like Modern Family, The Big Bang Theory, Silicon Valley, Community, Scrubs, and classics like The Simpsons and South Park. Whether it's smart drama or absurd satire, I’m always up for a great story!

Music: I have a pretty wide taste in music—from chill indie vibes to powerful classical symphonies. You’ll find me listening to Pink Floyd, Kendrick Lamar, Fairuz, Stromae, and sometimes lo-fi beats or deep house when I need to focus. I’m always open to discovering traditional music from the places I visit—there’s something magical about understanding a culture through its sound. If we hang out, I’ll probably ask you to share your favorite local song with me!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

While hiking solo in Ouachita Mountains, Oklahoma , I stumbled into a quiet forest trail. Suddenly, a baby bear crossed my path—adorable at first, until I remembered babies don’t wander alone. I panicked and ran (yes, not smart!). It turned out to be harmless, but unforgettable!

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: I can teach Arabic, basic photography, and how to cook Egyptian koshary!

Learn: I’d love to learn traditional dances or recipes from your culture.

Share: Always up for swapping stories, deep chats, or even a spontaneous street performance.
