About Me

Back on Couchsurfing after a break of several years. Now living in Northern Ireland most of the time, but I am unable to host at the moment.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I like the ethos of Couchsurfing which promotes meaningful contacts between people (especially with locals in a place I'm visiting), whilst allowing many of us to travel on a budget, and therefore perhaps to see more of the world and experience more cultures than otherwise would be possible.

Interests

Outdoor stuff... camping, hiking, sailing, scuba, beaches, gardening and organic farming
Thinking stuff... psychology, evolution of consciousness, spirituality and religion, cosmology.
Fun stuff...drumming, dancing, drinking
Idealistic stuff... intentional communities, retreat places, naturist politics, WNBR

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Breaking the Waves, Shortbus, Y tu Mama Tambien, Habana Blues, Weekend, Days of Heaven
Music: Wide taste but especially world music. Also, I've always been a big Bowie fan, and in 2016 I was in New York to see his latest play ( 'Lazarus' starring Michael C Hall ) in the same week that Bowie died. I had previously seen him in his first theatre role as John Merrick in The Elephant Man during it's 3 week opening run in Chicago, in August 1980 (later transferred to Broadway). And my first experience of solo travel was to see his concert during the 'Thin White Duke' tour, at Glasgow Apollo, June 1978. The ticket cost 6 pounds!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Took part in the ceremony to bury the ashes of Harry Hay and John Burnside (founders of the Radical Faeries) under 'Grandmother Maple' tree at Wolf Creek Sanctuary in Oregon. I interred the ashes, after a ritual involving the circle of men there.

Teach, Learn, Share

Happy to advise people about good places to see on their trip, and to help it be a positive experience. If I have time I would try to show you around the local area. I can share ideas about psychology, therapy and personal growth, and I also have some experience in massage and Tantra, lots of experience of naturist resorts and centres around the world, and also of intentional communities and retreat places.

What I Can Share with Hosts

As above, plus wine!
