About Me

Hakuna Matata!

Just a thirty-something year old journalist trying to make the best out of our days on earth, for everyone.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

After a break in CouchSurfing of several years, mostly because of a sedentary lifestyle imposed by COVID, work and a newly picked-up interest in alpinism, I'm now trying to get back into the scene. Surfing and hosting as much as possible, trying to attend some meetings though not as much as I'd like to.

Interests

I've got quite a large field of interest: music, travelling, theatre, alpinism and scouting to state the obvious, but I'm also into poetry, ethnical cooking, vexillollogy (the study of flags) belgian comic books, politics, climbing, expression (call it 'art' if you want, I don't really like that term), beard and moustache, modern history, philosophy, hiking,...

Music, Movies, and Books

Oh this could take a while...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Diverse experiences on numerous occasions. I haven't been paragliding over the Grand Canyon, been to Mars or gotten drunk with Che Guevara and there's no Beatles-song dedicated to me, but cliff-diving in Corsica was pretty cool actually. I wrote a book about mountaineering and hitchhiking in Europe, spent the majority of my twenties in multiple international Scouting events, fell out of an airplane (on purpose), and recently starred in a couple of plays. And if none of that amazes you... well, good!

Teach, Learn, Share

There's a lot of things I want to learn: How to juggle, how to paper a wall, how to wolf whistle and many more. I also want to improve my Swedish and Italian language skills and learn Russian, Arabic and Esperanto. I want to learn all about sustainable living, ethnical cooking, foreign politics, literature, the amazing human mind & body,... "Stones taught me to fly"

I can teach about Belgian politics and social stuff, its role in Europe, the history and topicality of Ghent, musical instruments and music theory (twelvestrings, alternative tunings,...) entomophagy, vexillollogy, alpinism, acting, writing, editing, how to have fun with languages (palindromes, conundrums, language puns,...), how to induce a good sneeze, how to wobble your ears.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My place is a little out of town, though a twenty minutes bus ride will take you there. It's a flat with two bedrooms, one of which is mine. The other one is my office, so you'll be sleeping on the couch in the living room. It's a highly comfortable, spacious thing with luscious cushioning and sheets you'll never want to leave behind. You do have your own guests bathroom though. And I'll gladly share food and drinks, as well as everything I know about the city and my company if desired.

Countries I’ve Visited
