Overview
About Me
My name is Bridget, I'm 22 years old, and my home base in Detroit, USA. I just finished my bachelor's degree at the University of Michigan, and for the last few years, I have been working on air quality and public health concerns in southwest Detroit. This area of Detroit is mostly Spanish-speaking, so living and working there has been a big motivation for me to learn Spanish! I'm about to embark on a 6-month trip through Colombia and Peru to see new places, meet new people, and get lots of language practice.
I love to hike, bike, cook (vegetarian food), sing while cooking, throw dinner parties, take photos, and read maps.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I love meeting new people! It's the best part of traveling, and the best part of having an extra couch or bedroom at home. When I traveled with my family as a kid, we often stayed with distant family or friends we hadn't seen in years. It makes the world feel so much friendlier, smaller, and open to possibilities! I want to live in the kind of world where strangers open their doors to each other, so I'm really happy that this platform exists to connect people from around the world.

Music, Movies, and Books
Books: Americanah, We Need New Names, The Color of Law, Evicted
Music: Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Fiona Apple, Regina Spektor... plus all kinds of jazz, hip-hop, and Motown.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach English, show you around Detroit (you'll have to tell me when I'm giving too much information!), and share my cooking. I'm passionate about social justice, and I have a lot to say about history, politics, and the state of democracy in the US. I'd love to compare how we each feel about politics in the places we live!
What I Can Share with Hosts
I'm excited to meet you and learn about about your city. I can tell you about my experience living in the US, and traveling through much of western Europe and Canada. I'd also love to cook (vegetarian food) for you one night while I am staying with you!
