About Me

ABOUT ME

So I'm Andrew.

SHORT VERSION:
I am amused by most things. I find the positive in most things. I like people and conversation and stories, a lot. I sometimes have the attention span of a potato. I have goals in life to help others. I'm honest. My style of thinking tends to be a bit unique. I am told I am entertaining and always happy. I love Burning Man.

(~~~unable to host for a while~~~ Please start your CouchRequest with "Hey Story Teller!" so I know its not a copy-paste message. Thanks! Also, I will automatically decline a copy-paste sounding message, aka message written in a way that could have been sent to multiple people without changing anything. FYI.)

LONG VERSION:
I'm an "on the bright side" kind of guy, finding something positive in most situations. I'm also known for being very rational... I like to think I work on the optimistic side of realism. And while I am very serious when important things are happening, I am usually acting very silly or telling random stories to get people to smile... I call that being a balanced person.

From what everyone tells me, I’m pretty laid back / chill. I get bothered by very little, and I am happy in any type of environment (named "most jovial man in Brazil" by a random Australian!). And I'm pretty open-minded, which isn't that surprising if you're on CS right now (or notice the burning man picture).

I'm also what you would call social, maybe a bit too much. I love meeting new people, I'll be up for any random adventure, and I'll try to turn little adventures into a group event whenever possible/acceptable. And while I'm not willing to stay out late on a host that wants to go sleep early or anything, I'm very willing to go without sleep or walk 15 miles (24km) with good company by my side. I'm also very much a story teller (which you'll notice pretty quickly), and also love to collect new stories (so please share!).

...and yea, that's me.

CURRENT MISSION

Save the world or die trying. .....via education for the children of the world!

PHILOSOPHY:
I want to try everything at least once. I want to hear the story of everyone I meet and I want to understand their point of view (especially if it’s a point of view I’ve never thought of before). I want to broaden my own perspective, so that I can interact with the world in a deeper and more helpful way. I love (and thus want to participate in) random chats, whether that be a deep philosophical conversation on issues of education equality in society or talking about the great entertainment a paperclip can provide.

So that's me. If you have any questions about anything (general interest, needing help, etc.), feel free to message me about anything!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I loved hosting when I had the space and when I travel I always meet up with other surfers and have a great time. I've even hosted the NY Thursday meeting before.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In 2010 I survived in New York City for over 8 months with about $1 a day for food.

I showed up with very little money, no real place to stay, and wanting to volunteer at schools. I left NY as a volunteer of three different schools (even helping run an after-school program), having experienced many different aspects of NY, and having made many great friends.

....and now I'm back!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach....

Food (Chileno cheese empanadas!)

Massages (back/shoulders)

Multimedia Design (how to use psychology to make a better website/presentation).

Zombie Apocalypse... If one were to occur, I would survive it. I will share such (useless) talents.

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, Egypt, India, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Malawi, Malaysia, Mexico, Nepal, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Tanzania, Thailand, Zambia, Zimbabwe

Countries I’ve Lived In

Nepal, United States
