CURRENT MISSION - Smile and be grateful every day.
ABOUT ME - I am a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (Philippines) and just finished my fourth year as a Phd student in Human Development and Family Studies. I was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to conduct my dissertation research in Sri Lanka from Nov 2016-Aug 2017, and hope to return to the US in December of 2017.
Growing up in the South taught me to appreciate family and strive for kindness and hospitality. The Philippines taught me to be grateful for so many opportunities and resources, and the value of sharing with others. The North East taught me about feminism (yay!) and also to appreciate distinct weather seasons. I look forward to the many lessons Sri Lanka has to teach me.
I want to work to make the world a better place, and think education and compassion are critical pieces in that quest.
PHILOSOPHY - Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING - I have benefited from being hosted, it is a wonderful thing. I have also enjoyed hosting, attending gatherings, and saying nice things about CouchSurfing to people I meet.
COUCH SURFING EXPERIENCE - So Positive! I've surfed in: Hawaii; Seoul; Singapore; New Britain, Connecticut; Jackson, Mississippi; Savannah, Georgia; Richmond, Virginia; Burlington, Vermont; Keene, New Hampshire; Baltimore, Maryland; Ypsilanti, Michigan; and Kandy, Sri Lanka. I've hosted in: the Philippines, Alabama, Connecticut, and Sri Lanka. I've partied with CSers in: Manila, Colombo, and Alabama and loved every minute of it!
Currently, my life is all consumed by research and studies. At the moment I spend a lot of time thinking about at-risk populations, why larger social issues aren't targeted more in policy, research, and practice.. and how those issues interact with individuals and relate to resiliency. Really, how we can use critical thinking and knowledge to change the world?
When I'm not studying, I enjoy any or all of the following combinations of activities: live music, bicycling, reading, diving, eating, and sitting outside. I also enjoy re-purposing and recycling. I hope to reuse and reduce waste as much as possible and lessen my dependence on new materials.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Taught a grandfather how to float on his back in the ocean...and watched him turn around and teach another man, who then turned and taught his friend standing in the ocean beside him. We were a floating party.
Teach, Learn, Share
/Teach/ I can outline the basics of operant conditioning and the behavioral contingency ...fun to use with children and pets:). /Learn/ Languages and instruments fascinate me, and I admire people who they seem to come easy to. I hope one day I will learn a few of each really well. /Share/ I am notably frugal and don't mind sharing my skills (but only if people ask).
What I Can Share with Hosts
I would love to share time with hosts and surfers alike.
I can also share my newfound love for feminism and critical theory, as well as some things I learned during my life in Alabama, the Philippines, Connecticut, and now as researcher in Sri Lanka.
