ABOUT ME

Myself (Marisol) I am a cuban/puertorican/irish mix originally from New Jersey. I'v spent some time in Miami, overseas, explored the last frontier of America... Alaska. My husband and I lived on the island of Oahu for almost 6 years! We had two children born in the island state and we are all now back in the land of the frozen tundra. My sons are learning Spanish with me, I try to speak 100% of the time in espanol con ellos- siempre quiero ayuda con esto proyecto.

Travis has been in Alaska since he was an infant and loves the Anchorage life. City conveniences and Alaskan adventures, rafting the Kenai, hooking a king salmon, watching our neighbors chase moose out of their gardens, and eating dall sheep because they are soo good. Travis and I moved back to Alaska in 2017 and are making it home.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Please include a connecting piece of information in your request, we are not a hostel, we are a family opening our home to people interested in connection and contributing to our family life while they are here. We get loads of requests so please personalize yours or it will be easy to decline. ***

Building a community of compassion, justice and joy is easier when we regularly meet new people- open our homes and our hearts to fresh perspectives, unique habits, and expose ourselves to the many ways humans live their lives.

PLEASE share something personal about you and your intentions to spend time with myself and my family in your request. We love to open our home to travelers and to share the hospitality karma with those who genuinely share interests, can expand our understanding of the world and especially those who enjoy playing-reading-drawing with kids.

Interests

Music, listening- lots of live options here in Anchorage, and now karaoke@ home- awesome!
Painting, drawing, general crafting, oh and sending packages.
Reading- always appreciate a good recommendation
Hiking/camping/long puppy walks
Speaking Spanish, learning phrases from other languages- really interested in sign language
Eating moose empanadas, rum cake, truffles, fresh Alaskan berries and salmon everything
Debating the unanswerable questions of humanity
Having mimosas with Sunday brunch.
Being really nice to strangers.
Experimenting in the kitchen, I'm working on muffins that are healthy, tasty, and allergy conscious... ps I always need new taste testers!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Snorkeled with sharks
Birthed a happy healthy baby
Been charged by an angry Alaskan Moose
Trekked to Machu Pichu (while recovering from food poisoning)
Floated on Lake Titicaca
Almost stepped on a funnel web spider web and lived to tell about it.
Pet a goana lizard outside my flat after feeding it tomatoes and potato chips in Brisbane.
Remember my trip to Amsterdam.
Drove from Miami to Anchorage in 9 days by myself

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to practice Spanish, learn from experts and help beginners learn from me
I love to cook and teach others ways to make healthy foods
I am always eager to learn more about singing, dancing, and playing instruments

What I Can Share with Hosts

Be calm, flexible, and peaceful. If you are worried about somethings communicate them- be open and honest so your guests know the hopes and expectations you have and they can honor them. Be willing to be uncomfortable and learn from it.
