About Me
CURRENT MISSION
I joined Couchsurfing back in 2008, not long after it started up as an idea, and I spent about 6 years couchsuring regularly across Europe. I met and stayed with amazing people, opened my house up and returned the favour when I settled down in Spain, and then working life took hold and took me back home to Australia where my wife, Laura, and I had to pull back from travelling.
We're now in a good place and we're getting back on the road!
We want to feel that travel freedom again - bring back our fun-loving travellers' spirits! In 2025, we want connect to the diverse world that we love and that we represent as an international couple. Our trips this year will be to Japan, tropical Australia, South America and the Caribbean.
ABOUT ME/US
I'm 36 years old, my wife Laura is 33. We live in a little coastal town in NSW, Australia, called Harrington - it's beautiful! Laura and I met in Madrid, Spain, where I studied part of my Australian degree, and spent a lot of time with her family in the Canary Islands. I am from this area of NSW, I came back as an adult after many years away, but during my travels through my 20s I lived in England, Ireland, Scotland and Spain.
Laura and I are professionals in our 30s, we have our professions but also run our own business too! That keeps us entertained, but the small town with lots of natural beauty but little social entertainment means that making friends from around the world is a good way to spend weekends! If you want to stay with us, in your request, mention macarones - you might need find out what the word means in Spanish too, but we’ll know you’ve read this if we see it mentioned.
PHILOSOPHY
We love couchsurfing and always have because it generates optimism within us, and brings back faith in humanity. We live for people's positive energy, and Couchsurfing is a place we've found it, generating friendships with hosts and surfers alike that we still have to this day.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Symbiosis - we've couchsurfed, we've hosted, we've mingled at Couchsurfing events and we've loved it. We're now looking to mix up our trips with regular stays with Couchsurfing hosts so we can further broaden our global network of friends.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Laura and I have immense courchsurfing experience, we just haven't been too active for the past 4 years. But we're getting back into it - we've couchsurfed all across Europe, in Australia, North Africa and South America. I recommend it to anyone who travels and I've made some amazing friends through the initiative and am thankful for it. I even made a video back in 2008 with a Northern Irishman that is still available on Youtube - it was when Couchsurfing had only just begun!
