About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Live my life wholeheartedly, which means being aware, open and engaged. Live my true purpose.

ABOUT ME

I have an adventuresome spirit and enjoy being out and about, experiencing what comes along either by myself or with friends. In 2012, after working for 40 years, I quit my job and made some big changes in how and where I live my life. I'm still developing who I wish to be from here out. I am very involved in my community, including volunteering, enjoying outdoors and political activities. I have 3 children, ages 26 - 31, who are lovely people and doing well. We live wide distances from each other but make plans to get together once or twice a year.

PHILOSOPHY

Mine is a work in progress. It involves respect, integrity and compassion...on both the giving and receiving ends. And that includes my relationship with myself as well as with others I encounter.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I used CS while touring in Europe in 2012 and met some lovely people, made new friends and got a much better appreciation for the philosophy and why it works (and when it maybe doesn't).

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I surfed in France, Hungary, Czech Republic and the Netherlands in late 2012. In the US I've only used CS in Arizona but have surfed informally in Asheville. I'm finally settled in my own apartment with some ability to host right now, in my living room.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In 1969 I was able to spend 9 weeks in Brittany as part of a high-school total immersion program. It had a deep impact on me. By the time it was over I spoke French fluently and easily; I have retained some of that but mostly an appreciation for learning other cultures. Since then I have been back to Europe several times and to Morocco to visit my brother when he was in the Peace Corps there.

Teach, Learn, Share

Generally good with computers, at least for someone who wasn't born with a mouse in their hand. Also proficient with many aspects of business management, including finance. Reasonably good cook, very proficient at enjoying food of many cultures ;-). I'm an excellent dancer and a patient teacher of dance to those who are genuinely interested in learning.

I mostly want to learn about other people and their lives. What I need to know to get by I have pretty much figured out. I am interested in developing more of my creative side so any art-related leanings would be appreciated.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Dance lessons, life learnings. Probably other things, just ask. Sometimes I forget what I know.
