Overview
About Me
Hello, I’m Dan from Lisbon. I enjoy learning about languages, connecting with people, and spending thoughtful time together. I like walking through the city’s streets and viewpoints, sharing a coffee, and exchanging stories about life and travels. I’ve spent several years exploring South Asia and meeting people from many different cultures. I enjoy both hosting and traveling through Couchsurfing, always looking forward to meaningful experiences and genuine connections. I currently receive several requests, so I’m quite selective about who I host — I prefer genuine, respectful travelers who share similar values and interests.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I’m passionate about making friends from all around the world! Staying connected with people from different cultures keeps me feeling like a true global citizen. I’m also open to learning more languages together—especially Spanish, French, Italian, and German—and picking up new phrases from guests. It’s one of the best parts of hosting travelers from everywhere.
Interests
I love traveling, meeting new people, and discovering different cultures. I’m really into food - whether it’s trying local dishes or cooking with new friends. I enjoy cycling, staying active, and learning about the history of the places I visit.Lately, I’ve started learning guitar, which has been a fun way to relax and connect with others on the road. I’m always up for hanging out, sharing stories, and having a good time wherever I am.
Music, Movies, and Books
My favorite music: Rihanna, Enrique Iglesias, Freddie Mercury, fado (Amália Rodrigues), classic guitar (Paco de Lucía), and Portuguese guitar. Movies: Forrest Gump, The Matrix, The Shawshank Redemption, The Motorcycle Diaries, Into the Wild.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Completed 400 km bicycle ride to a hill station and return within two days, total elevation 6000 mtrs.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you Portuguese (European variety with local Lisbon slang), fado music history and where to experience it live, and tons about Portugal—from azulejos architecture and pastéis de nata origins to royal family quirks and hidden miradouros. I also share cultural insights (festivals, traditions) fun history facts (like how Vasco da Gama changed Lisbon forever), and practical travel tips for countries I’ve explored through stories from nomads I’ve met.
What I Can Share with Hosts
As a city center local, I love showing guests around Lisbon’s hidden spots, viewpoints, and neighborhoods. I usually eat out and I’m happy to recommend (or take you to) some of my favorite restaurants and cafés.
If you enjoy cycling and know how to ride, I can offer you a relaxed city tour with my electric bicycles, it’s a great way to explore Lisbon and suburbs from a different perspective.
I’m always up for sharing a meal, grabbing a coffee, or just hanging out and chatting about travel, local life, and everything in between.
