Hola! qué tal? I'm Daro, an experienced host and traveler who loves meeting new people, discovering new places, making friends, and sharing good times. I'm pretty chill and easygoing. I was born and raised in Montevideo, Uruguay, and I've been lucky enough to travel the world. I also lived for several years in São Paulo, Brazil, a city that I still love dearly. I'm an architect by training and a designer by passion. Currently, I run a graphic publication studio called "microutopías", focused on independent publishing and queer zines, so I travel around attending art book fairs.. @microutopiaspress 🖨🧨🌈 Always happy to exchange stories, ideas, recommendations, and a good conversation over coffee, a meal, or a walk around the city. Why I'm on Couchsurfing
I simply love traveling and connecting with people, and I’ve been part of this community for many years now. Since joining Couchsurfing (2009), I’ve shared countless positive experiences and met amazing people from all around the world. For the past 15 years, I’ve been actively involved in the Couchsurfing community as an Ambassador in both São Paulo and Montevideo, as well as a CS greeter, moderator, and organizer of the local weekly meetups, among other roles. This community has shaped many of my friendships, travels, and experiences over the years. *** To move, to breathe, to fly, to float. To gain all while you give. To roam the roads of lands remote. To travel is to live. — Hans Christian Andersen
Music, Movies, and Books
I'm pretty eclectic and mood-dependent. Like a good millennial I often return to my all-time favorites, but I also love discovering new and lesser-known stuff. So show me the latest thing you've been excited about—I’d love to check it out. Music: I listen to everything from indie rock, electropop, and techno to Balkan beats, MPB (Brazilian popular music), and various Latin rhythms Movies: I enjoy films by Michel Gondry, Lars von Trier, Wes Anderson, Emir Kusturica, Pedro Almodóvar, Xavier Dolan, Wong Kar-wai, Alfonso Cuarón, Lucrecia Martel, Gaspar Noé... and pretty much anything starring Meryl Streep Books: Murakami, Camus, Perec, Preciado, Haraway... Saramago, Borges, Cortázar, Benedetti, Galeano, Lispector, Felisberto Hernández
One Amazing Thing I've Done
Too many to count! One of the biggest highlights was 2013, when I took the year off to travel around the world with friends ✈ https://architectours.tumblr.com

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are we not to be? It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.. and when we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. —Marianne Williamson
What I Can Share With Hosts
As a local, I'm always happy to share recommendations beyond the typical tourist route. If you're interested in art, publishing, architecture, or independent cultural spaces, I can point you toward some of my favorite places in Montevideo: artist-run spaces, galleries, museums, bookshops, cafés, and hidden corners of the city. You should definitely check out the pedestrian streets of the Old Town, the Rambla waterfront and Parque Rodó, and catch a sunset at Ramírez Beach. You can also enjoy the panoramic views from the City Hall Observation Deck, visit the Tristán Narvaja Sunday flea market, and experience candombe in Barrio Sur, especially along Isla de Flores Street, where Afro-Uruguayan traditions remain very much alive. If you're interested in art and culture, I recommend the CCE (Spanish Cultural Center), Subte (contemporary art gallery), MNAV (National Museum of Visual Arts), EAC (Contemporary Art Center), CdF (Photography Center), Teatro Solís and Cinemateca. And of course, there's mate. In Uruguay, mate is much more than a drink—it's a social ritual. You'll see people carrying a thermos and mate cup everywhere they go. If you've never tried it, I'd be happy to share one with you. 🧉
