About Me

I teach philosophy at Koç University in Istanbul. I'm spending the summer travelling in the Caucasus and Central Asia and I'd love to meet some locals or fellow travellers.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I joined CS before travelling around Iran in the spring of 2013. The hospitality was so warm and generous and I made a number of great friends. I tried to return the favour as a host when I moved to Chicago. I haven't used CS since before Covid but I look forward to rediscovering the community in 2025.

Interests

I love nature and I love culture. Nature-wise, I'm an avid hiker and love seeing stunning landscapes away from roads. Culture-wise, I'm an active reader with a love for theatre and generally enjoy discovering local cultural events, from live music to unique events.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: things I've loved range from Star Wars to Tarantino to Haneke

Music: I lean toward folk and indie as well as classical but with a broad range. Favourites include The Mountain Goats, the Beach Boys, Elliott Smith, and Glenn Gould playing Bach

Books: Shakespeare, Wittgenstein, Nietzsche, Chekhov, Dostoevsky... gosh, that sounds very pretentious, but really, I'm not super serious.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went skinny dipping in the Arctic Ocean.

Teach, Learn, Share

I teach philosophy for a living, but I'm also happy to talk about it for free. I'm also very interested in theatre and know a bit about acting and play writing. I like cooking, but I'm not the first person you should try to learn from. I speak decent French and German, a bit of Russian, and I'm learning Turkish.
