About Me

I've been away from CS for a long time, but checking it out again.
Back in 2008, I lived in a house with four other couchsurfers and we hosted a LOT of people. In 2009, I didn't host but I went to a lot of CS events.
Since then, I've mostly been away from CS. In that time, I did a lot of things. I started two companies and changed jobs a few times, started a local technology meetup etc.
I now live in a house on my own, so plenty of hosting space, but also a bit out of the way from the most common CS destinations. Still, if you're in the area, I'd be happy to meet up and maybe host.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I believe in diversity and want to meet lots of random and different people. It broadens the mind (and perhaps I can make a few new lasting friendships too).

Interests

I have a bunch of random interests, but most recently I’ve taken an interest in card magic/illusions and have been teaching myself sleight of hand and performing illusions.

I’m also interested in (and work in) technology, where my interests are quite varied, from electronics (I’ve created light show props used at a large concert in the past), computer games and electronic music to artificial intelligence.

Other things I enjoy (or have enjoyed in the past) are travel (obviously since I’m on CS), music, reading (recently I’ve started to read ancient Sumerian mythology), snowboarding and board games. I also love many kinds of art, especially digital art.

Music, Movies, and Books

Too much to narrow down to “favourites”. Maybe I’ll revisit this section of my profile sometime.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Only one? How about three:

1. I’ve learned to perform card illusions and have invented an “impossible” routine that I hope to perform to the public later this year (if I can build up enough courage to do so..)

2. I’ve visited the Syrian desert (before the turmoil started)

3. I also took the dive and started two companies (back to back), without any savings or safety net. It's character building, supposedly.

Teach, Learn, Share

After you've met me, if you feel theres something I can teach which you'd like to learn, I'd certainly be happy help.

Specific things I could teach are computer programming and sleight of hand card tricks.
