ABOUT ME

We are a family of four just back from travelling in Peru and Colombia, so we are particularly keen to host Spanish speaking families. Dylan, Ruth, Aidan 11 and Anushka 6. Somos una familia de cuatro, acabo de regresar de viajar en Perú y Colombia, entonces nos gustaria especialmente acoger familias que hablan español. Dylan (papá), Ruth (mamá), Aidan (hijo con 11 años) y Anushka (hija con 6 años).

We are a sociable family. We are keen to meet local people and experience everyday life, as well as visit touristy places. We plan to travel quite slowly, as everything takes longer with children. Somos una familia sociable. Estamos interesados en conocer gente local y experimentar la vida cotidiana, así como visitar lugares turísticos. Planeamos a viajar bastante lentamente, porque todo necesita más tiempo con niños.

Ruth speaks quite good Spanish and the rest of the family have started learning recently. Ruth habla español bastante bien y el resto de la familia han empezado a aprender recientemente.

We love playing music, but can't bring instruments with us. Aidan loves sport and reading. Anushka loves water and craft. We like getting out into parks and the countryside and at home we cycle a lot. We like talking and thinking, although expect this to be interrupted often by children. A Ruth y Dylan nos gusta tocar la música, pero no podemos llevar los instrumentos. A Aidan le encantan los deportes y leer. A Anushka le encanta agua y la artesanía. Nos gustan salir en parques y en la naturaleza y en Inglaterra montamos mucho en bicicleta. Nos gusta hablar y pensar, pero esto es interrumpido mucho por los niños.

We would be happy to cook for you, although we are vegetarian, so not meat. We can play some games with you or teach you a song. If you have children, we would be happy to hang out with them & teach them some English too. Estaríamos encantados de cocinar para sus, pero somos vegetarianos, entonces sin carne. Podemos jugar o enseñarte una canción. Si tiene niños podemos pasar el rato con ellos y enseñarles algo de inglés también.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We have had an array of unusual, quirky couchsurfers to stay. Dylan and Ruth first went couchsurfing while cycling around Ghana - a completely amazing experience.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We stayed with a family in a compound in Ghana, where we learnt to pound fufu, carry a baby on our back and ended up on Ghanaian TV.

兴趣

Music; Ruth plays mainly traditional music from UK, France & Scandinavia on harp and fiddle. Dylan plays bass guitar in a band that is very difficult to describe & mandolin for traditional music. We also like dancing and drinking good beer in pubs with or without playing music at the same time and going to festivals.

Being outside; walking in the Peaks, growing vegetables, sledging, swimming in streams, camping....

Sport: Aidan loves all sport, football, tennis, basketball... Anushka loves water, climbing, ice skating. We all like cycling. In Sheffield we have plenty of bikes, so might be able to lend you one, if you are willing to brave the Sheffield hills.

Lived in a straw, wood and clay house in the woods in France for a month while working through helpx.net, putting maternity leave to good use.

教，学，和分享

We can teach you some English or a song in English. Dylan can teach you to mend your bike. We would love to share and learn songs and tunes from everywhere. We have learnt a lot of Makaton signing (with a bit of BSL - British Sign Language too) to use with our son, so will happily teach you that. Aidan is learning Spanish, so great if you can teach him a bit more and he will play football with you for hours if you are willing.

We often cook a meal (vegetarian) when we are staying with others. We can look after your kids.
