About Me
READ IT PLEASE: (OKUYUN LÜTFEN)
NOTE: I'm friendly and fun but I have some rules. I just want some respect and good intentions from you. That's all :)))
I live in Rize city (1 hour away from Trabzon city) Be aware of that.
I have so many requests and messages. I wish I could host you all but that's really difficult.
I must explain couple of things. I forced myself not to do it before but now it is necessary to talk about the things below. They might seem ridiculous things but they annoy me too much. Please be aware of those facts before sending me requests because as a host and a guest I'm extremely careful about those things. if you think that you don't like the rules at all you should look for the other hosts.
1-Do not add me as a friend here if we haven't met in real life. why do you add me btw? it is ridiculous really. They add me and they remain silent at all. what is the point of adding random people? Increase the number of your friends for nothing? (They add me often)
2- Be respectful. My apartment is not a hotel or a common area. if you think like that stay away. (They oftenly think like that)
3- Have a couchsurfing spirit first and try to understand the idea. It is not designed as just for free accommodation. They open their account recently and they only try to use couchsurfing in order not to pay any money. Sharing cultures are important. Of course you must start from zero but try to host first or have personal references who has real references ( It happens a lot)
4- if "zero budget travelling and money-free life (except hitchhiking) are your life style please stay away. Because I have no obligation or mission to feed you or take care of your needs. I'm always more than hospitable. My fridge and apartment are always open for you. You can eat as you want. No problem. I'd be very happy if you eat and get full but have empathy and good intentions please. They don't have any money or they don't wanna spend any penny for their food and they consume all my food without me and sometimes even without asking me. Just ask me honestly (It happened).
5. Again I'm very hospitable indeed. I can cook for you. I can show the city. I can help in anything etc. but I don't have to pay your bus tickets or anything else. You don't wanna spend any money and you wanna visit places by bus. How come and how dare? When we are on the bus, after I ask you couple of times you inform me that you don't have any Turkish money. but you want to visit the place still. You want me to pay instead of you but you are not willing to pay back the money to me at all. How could you feel about if you were me? I'm still angry btw. I spare my time, my home and money. You don't even thank me. (It happened)
6. If you want to stay more than you requested you should ask me before. Maybe I'll have guests or other plans. Even at a hostel you should inform them in advance. You must ask to me directly that you want to stay more. I usually accept it but you cannot try to make my home worse than a hostel. ( It happens)
7. Don't be a weirdo. if you come to my apartment you should speak at least couple of minutes with me. They go to their room directly and they even dont speak at all without even saying good night (It happens a lot).
8. No reference or fake references or fake surnames mean you are fake too. No trust. Sorry. Would you accept anyone who doesn't have references or any info in their profile) to your home? (It happens frequently) Exceptionals situations are different.
9. Follow the house rules. My home-my rules. I give you clean things and you even don't fold them in the morning and you let the bed untidy like in a hostel. They even put the sheets in a very bad situation at floor as I must clean it like a slave. Don't insult people who welcome you. Being tidy and clean are great features. Nobody would want to host you again (It happens sometimes)
10. if I'm not at home and if you ate something you should clean your dishes. my kitchen is always very clean. I don't have to clean your mess. You must clean your mess very well as you found it very clean the kitchen. I mean it. you are a guest. Again be respecful. (it happens)
11. I don't care about gaining more references. I have more than enough and I can have more references if I'd like to have. I want to know you and I'd like to listen your stories and make new friends. Do not ask for exchanging fake references. It is against to the ethics. Remember about the karma.
12. if you eat something secretly in your room and hide the garbages it makes me feel like I regretted of hosting such a strange and rude person. Come and eat at kitchen or at saloon. Don't worry. I'm not gonna ask any of your food.
13. My home is not a hotel. If I accepted you to stay my place that's my generosity. So you should come to home before midnight because I work the next day or I'm tired or I just wanna sleep earlier. if you change your plan and you are not gonna stay at my place you should inform me immediately. Not having internet is not a fucking excuse. You can call, send message or let any Turkish in the street to call me in order to inform me. So don't try to make me a fool. (It happened many times and it makes me angry- please make empathy my friends)
14. I usually do not give my apartment keys to my guests. I exit around 9 am and I arrive to home around 5pm. So you should arrange your time. Giving the keys decision needs the time and the trust. So don't be insistful in the first days please. That's my decision at all.
15. If you want to stay at my place please send a proper request. Don't send me just massages. I have many massages and sometimes I cannot track who wants to stay and who is coming next.
16. Please treat my home as it is your home because I treat it is also your home. Don't let any lamp open and close the water entirely after using. It costs money and it is the waste of resources because of your carelessness. Do you let it open all your lamps and electricity all day long?( It happens frequently)
17. You shouldn't use electronic devices like washing machine, hair dryer etc without asking my permission. Ask before using. it is really easy to ask.
18. You shouldn't let the cattle connected to electricity. There is a fire risk.
19. You must not enter to any closed room and you must not use any of my stuff without asking me. That's really rude.
20. You must not enter to home with your shoes and must not dress up your shoes at home. It is Turkish culture. Just take it out in outside. You step in dog shits and you walk at my home like that. You may walk with your shoes at your place.
21. You must inform me your approximate arrival time to my place. You are coming to my place but If I wouldn't ask you, you don't let me know your arriving time. Even in hostels they ask your arriving and leaving time. I cannot wait you all day long at home. I don't need to ask you. You are the one who supposed to ask kindly whether I'm free and at home.
22. I'm inviting you to my home. I give my effort to write you but you don't even bother to reply me whether you will come or not. Sometimes they send only abbreviations. Who the f.. are you? That's super annoying. Please don't be like those people. Thats why I seldom invite people to my home. If you'd like to stay at my place you must ask.
23. You request me to stay at my place. It seems that's only you at first sight but when I read your message I understand that you want me to host more 4-5 people and you only mention they are males ( such as 3male 1female) There isn't any info, reference or even names in your message. How I can trust it seriously? Only the female in the group sends me a request as if it is like a trap or as if I host only females. (It happens to me a lot )
24. I host females and males equally.
25. I have rights to answer or not answer to your messages depends on my mood and your message.
26. I can be a life-time friend. It is up to your attitude.
27. Again I wanna talk about money unfortunately. There is only exchange office in Rize. It works until 18.00pm except sundays. It is better if you have Turkish lira before you come here.
28. Money must be your first issue when you are to a new country but some people are very relaxed and if I don't ask them they don't tell me that they don't have Turkish money and they expect me to pay in the bus. They even don't ask how much is the ticket so though I must pay your ticket. That's incredible. I would be ashamed of that and I would ask the price before getting the bus. (They had dollars by the way and They even didn't wanted to me change their dollar to Turkish lira. They treated me as I'm a cheater while I was trying to help them. I don't need your f..ing 5 dollars at all)
29. Please have shower. I'm sorry to say that but if you feel smelly please go to bathroom. when my guests arrive my home I show the bathroom at first sight because maybe they need it. You can use my washing machine too. There were some bad odours which I cannot forget them in my entire life.
30. Do not force me to answer your message. if I don't answer It means that mostly I'm trying to arrange to host you.
31. If you come to my kitchen and say "feed me" word by word, that's so rough and shameless also unblushing. I fed them because of I'm generous but I felt regret that I hosted them. (Same people had bought alcohol for 6 dollars 30 minutes ago. But they didn't want to pay 1 or 2 dollars because they thought that it is free at home. Don't do that. Respect to yourself.
32. If you come to my country and if you try to insult me by using Ottoman Empire rules, Turkish culture etc. You will have tough replies from me because my interest is history and I know history and politics more than you ( Yes. I'm pretentious :)
33. If you are not suitable why do you accept my requests? They accept my requests but they say that they are not available. It is in English. Come on. Accept means accept.
34. This rule is for the haters. Couchsurfing users do not separate people regarding to their race, religion, country, English level etc. It means hospitality. You cannot say that ypu don't accept Turkish people at all. It is racist and fascist. Would you like to encounter a message "I dont accept people from ...." when you travel? It is quite boring and annoying. You will be reported. )
35. If you don't use real name most probably you cannot have reply from me. How can I host someone which I even don't know their real name? What is the point of that? Why don't you use your real name instead of "Princess, Jaz, Day, evening" or some meaningless abbreviations etc. Are you a criminal? what are you hiding? Would you host someone like them in your home?
36. I'm sensitive about promises. If you give me a promise please do it. If you told me that you'll prepare a dinner I expect you to do it naturally because you offer it. If you can not do it please say it kindly. Don't use your promises to trick me. ( It happens)
37. If you send me a request before 5 months of your arrival it is ridiculous really. I even don't know that I'll be living tomorrow how can I respond you?
38. I didn't want to share my friends' pictures because I need to their permission. I have been using this app since 2011 so it is normal to have old pictures of myself.
39. Let's suppose that I accepted a single guest. He or she wants me host another friend which they meet in somewhere else and they don't even bother themself to explain to me their friends' profile, name, etc. Nothing. If you go to a hotel they would ask your names. I don't know you yet and you try to bring another random person to my home.
40. I want you to read my profile so I don't need to explain all those things to you over and over again. This rules are also essential ethic rules which you have to obey when someone welcomes to at his place. If you don't like to read you can start to read the hotels information. We can not share many things. I don't need to host you indeed. I just want to make friends. A tip for you requests: Instead of sending same messages to many people if you try to read their profile and personalize the message your chance to find a place is getting higher.
41. A girl sent me a request on 24th. I arranged my schedule. I ask her certain arrival day on 20 of June and she didn't even mention it. She called me on 21rd of june and she told me that she is coming with a guy which I don't know at all to my home tomorrow :D
42. You have a private toilet in your room but you still use mine even though I warned you. Seriously why?
43. Don't use my perfumes or anything personal without asking.
44. I host max. 2 or 3 days.
45. Be sure about days and staying period.
46. Why don't you write a counter reference afterwards?
47. Don't write a message as " We remained outside". It is annoying.
48. "We will come to Rize in this time". How would you answer this order (Message)? :D
49. If you wanna stay longer ask precisely and kindly. I cannot just say "leave the house" because I'm kind.
50. The guest is a gift from the God. Act cool.
I want to write more issues but there is a character limitation :))
if you agree with all things above start your message as writing my surname. So I can understand you read my profile and aware of something.
if you think that my rules are too much it means that you don't like reading at all or you don't care about anything or you don't respect to no one. So most probably we cannot share anything interesting. You should look to other easy profiles even without references. Almost all surfers whom I hosted at my place left my home super happy.
I worked as a scientist at Istanbul University (Ph.D.). Now I work at university in Rize as an associate professor. My field is marine biology and bacteriology specificly bacterial diversity, pollution and biotechnology. I used to live in Istanbul. I was an Erasmus student in Faro, Portugal and I stayed in there for 6 months. I lived in Genoa-ltaly about 8 months (for a scientific project). It means I love both Portugal and Italy :) I respect to everykind of persons and ideas. Life is good. It worths to live well as much as possible.
“Good thoughts, good words and good deeds” "Carpe diem"
If you read it all congratulations because nobody reads :) More rules below on interest section :)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Travel is an addiction for me. I met with incredible people from all over the world. It widen my perspective to life. Couchsurfing is a great platform for travelling and meeting people with their unique culture. I hosted and I was hosted many times in different countries. So I got stories and motivation.
Interests
every beautiful and enjoyable thing in this boring life :) I like science, history, and nature. Actually there are many things to say...
A nice article (and more about couchsurfing) which I recommend you to read: How to be a Good Couchsurfing Guest and Host?
51- If I accept to host you for certain days but if you change your plan and if you want to leave earlier then we talked you should inform me immediately because I mostly deny other requests because I host you at my apartment. E.g. If we agree that you"ll stay 5 days (rarely accepted) and if you want to leave on the third day just let me know before. The plans may change. That's so normal indeed but if I learn it when you are ready to leave,, then It is not so cool.
52- No matter what happens, you shouldn't raise your voice when we talk. This will not be tolerated. I try to speak to my guests very respectfully and kindly with a normal tone even though sometimes I get disturbed and or angry. My voice is so strong and deep. You'll notice if we meet :)
53. Again, I'm very curious about countries, historical events, wars, politics etc. We may not share same opinions but we can be respectful to each other. Do not try to change my ideas only based on your ideas but not logic and common facts. I hosted someone that didn't know or aware a very important war, consequences and reasons (or history) belong to her/his country at all. Or he/she didn't have enough information about my country yet they tried humiliate (or say lies about) the founder and other heroes of Turkey. Respect is the key.
54. I don't ask anything you to bring or buy but if you bring something I would thank you for sure. Specially, I don't need you to buy dessert or specialities belong to my country because I can buy and them whenever I want. I have enough money to buy :)). In my culture (also I believe it doesnt depend on the culture), if you want to bring and share desserts like Baklava you shouldn't even ask. If we go someone's house in Turkey and if we bring something as a gift, we don't ask. A surfer brought such a thing after asking to me. I didn't see the message and this surfer told me that he/she didn't buy it for me. Anyway, she/he prepared some tea after bringing two forks for us (using the kitchen more than 3 days btw). I observed that this surfer started to eat. I normally barely eat such things but I sometimes just accompany you. I had one piece dessert after she ate 2 or 3 pieces. The dessert was exactly in my mouth and the surfer screamed to me as: "I thought we were going to share. you ate exactly the most expensive one" in a very serious manner. I was shocked hahaha. Even in this unkind situation, I was calm and I didn't want to be rude. The whole package is around 3-4 dollars btw :)
55- I was with a surfer in a supermarket. Surfer was hungry and I thought I could cook for us. I bought the things and the surfer was looking very carefully at something on discount. I had to ask " Do you need anything?" The surfer wanted to buy a facial beauty cream for her mother as a gift. I told her that I can buy it for you and you can give me the money when you exchange the money. She used the house as a free source for 3 days. Plus, she didn't give the money for sure. It was around 3 dollars. It is not about the money. I could have gifted her even but the surfer tried to fool me.
56- Why even don't you even bother yourself to respond my requests and messages? It takes only 1 second to decline and it takes 10 seconds to say you are not available. The world is really small. Our paths will cross with each other finally and my revenge will be ruthless. It is a joke but I'll put them in my black list. Thankfully, I can see the old messages and requests easily :)))
57- My main purpose is to make new friends from everywhere. I'd like to talk, listen and understand the people. Their stories and experiences are priceless to me. I can afford to stay in hotels easily but I believe that people are the one who make the cities and memories unforgettable not the cities, empty streets or similar architectures. I don't send any request to any person or accept someone whom I think that we cannot communicate or be friends.
