About Me

I grew up in Bothell, Washington just outside of Seattle and love the Pacific Northwest so much that I've hardly left! Even after travelling throughout the US and SE Asia this area blows me away for it's beauty, and living in Seattle presents opportunities to do all manner of interesting things. I've traveled in SE Asia and across much of the Western US, especially hiking all over the Olympic and Cascade Mountains of Washington. There have been a lot of fun and wild adventures in there that I've cherished ever since.

THAT IS UNTIL NOW! At the end of March I moved to Reno, NV and am now getting acquainted to a new landscape, new city, and new people. If you stay with me we will have the opportunity to explore the city and surrounding enviros together.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I like to meet new people while traveling and Couchsurfing is a great way to do it. I also enjoy hosting people who are traveling and hearing stories from the road, and learning about their lives, passions and whatever each person likes to share! I am new to Couchsurfing and think it would be fun to host people through the network.

Interests

I like to get out and hike with friends in beautiful places around the Cascade and Olympic Mountains and Puget Sound forests. Going hunting for mushrooms with camera in hand and a couple fine ales in the pack is a favorite of fall activities! Around the city I enjoy going to music shows, throwing dinner parties, reading books on a wide range of topics and themes - fantasy, biography, spiritual, political, ecological, and cooking are all themes that I enjoy. Other interests are bicycling, trying every cafe in town (especially the niche ones that are owned by rad people), cooking with friends, backpacking, frisbee, community organizing, meditation, photography and photoeditting, and more.

Music, Movies, and Books

I guess I like a lot of genres, really I'm into anything that I connect with. I've been listening to a lot of FKA Twigs, Hundred Waters, Blood Orange, Janelle Monae, Bjork, Killer Mike, Sleater-Kinney, Run the Jewels, and Grace Jones. I go to jazz pretty often and when I do I usually go for Thelonious Monk's Brilliant Corners, Charles Mingus' Mingus Ah Um, Nina Simone, and John Coltrane's A Love Supreme. When it comes to punk I dig American hardcore like MDC, the Minutemen, Dead Kennedys, Minor Threat, and Reagan Youth; also dig British Anarcho-punk like Crass, Zounds, and Chumbawamba. Indie rock: Arcade Fire, the Shins, Built to Spill, Deerhoof, the Flaming Lips, Spoon.

Movies/TV: Princess Monanoke, Spirited Away, Ponyo, Boyhood, Her, DamNation,, Lord of the Rings trilogy, Parks and Rec, Daria, Portlandia, Breaking Bad (which is the most stressful show I've ever watched), Planet Earth.

Authors: Arundhati Roy, Ronald Takaki, Sherman Alexie, Masanobu Fukuoka, Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, Thich Nhat Hahn, Tolkien.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I climbed Mount Baker at sunset as part of a geography class, and so we watched the sun go down over the San Juan Islands 10,000 feet below us. I think the neatest part was hiking down through the snow without headlamps as the full moon shined light to see by off of the snow.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can share food, space, jokes, and stories. I can teach backcountry trip planning, plant identification, basic bike maintenance, how to make really delicious popcorn, and more. I'd like to learn an instrument, guitar and keys both come to mind as ones that would be fun

What I Can Share with Hosts

I like to share food, beer, conversation, stories from recent travels. I've enjoyed cooking breakfast for my hosts when it's worked out, which usually makes it a win-win. I get to make breakfast and my hosts get to eat breakfast. Hard to argue with that logic.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, India, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand, Viet Nam
