CURRENT MISSION World trip 2016 ABOUT ME I'm a musician who teaches hundreds of kids a week to love music. Also I write for street press (journalist) and teach yoga at several schools in Sydney. I live with a bunch of eccentric musicians and academics who ensure that every weekend is filled with adventures like rock-climbing and diving, concerts and naughtiness. I love Japanese performance arts and circus, especially aerials. PHILOSOPHY Enjoy every minute. Like so many, I went through a post-structuralist phase, the kind of modernist bent that reflexively comes after post-modernism... but don't let that stop us chatting about the weather.

Why I'm on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING At home I'm often flexible during the middle of the day to show people around Sydney, and I love getting out to the mountains or beaches on weekends so let me know where/when you'd like to go and maybe I can help you out :) Have hosted for 10+ years but am not hosting right now. COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE I've couch-surfed in Thailand, Holland, Scotland and Japan. It has been really positive every time. Here in Oz I've hosted loads of people at different share-houses in Sydney's inner west. My surfers have ended up being some of the most interesting people I know and I stay in touch with them even years later. This year 2016, I met up with a few in Denmark and we had a lovely time reminiscing and creating new adventures that included giant elephant sculptures.
Music, Movies, and Books
Try me? I'm an expert in Japanese Zen music, taiko, renaissance polyphony (church music) and baroque music - especially ensemble work. But I love all sorts of experimental things and "normal" going-out type popular music too. Listen to my duo here: https://m.soundcloud.com/aliquot-zen-mistresses
One Amazing Thing I've Done
I've played 3 sold out gigs at the Sydney Opera House and those were in three totally different guises - as a singer, flautist and taiko player. I've swum with abandon, danced at... what does it matter, everyone has a brush with fame dance-off somewhere in their haziest memories
Teach, Learn, Share
In Sydney's inner suburbs we go to gigs and warehouse parties nearly every night. Mostly we're performing or supporting our mates' performances. It's always a joy to take along new friends to these underground spaces. These days I take a lot of pride from helping yoga students to feel embodied and powerful. I like to equip people with information so they can choose how to proceed safely and joyfully.
What I Can Share With Hosts
Good at listening to and sharing stories. I can cook a meal or two for you and engage you and/or your kids in music chats that will affirm your love of whatever genre it is that tickles you, and then we can bend, move and shake in some serious yoga. I'll give you a yoga sequence to help get rid of those niggling neck pains and you'll be standing on your hands in no time.
My Interests
Languages, natural sciences, music, art... I'm a bit of a museum junky, don't tell anyone. I can spend hours just marvelling over the wonder that is refridgeration. Minerals make me sweat. Don't get me started on etymology!!!
