About Me

Born and raised in Porto Alegre / Brazil, but always passionate about Pernambuco's culture, moved to Recife after graduating and lived 7 times the best CarnAval in the world. After that moved to Dublin/ Ireland in order to study English and got completely bitten by the Travel Bug. It's been 10 years since I put backpacking into the center of my life, everything I do and every penny I save is to hit the road and know places, people and cultures. Last year I met my beloved partner @renata_strauch, we moved Lisbon/ Portugal and now are planning lots of travels together.

Important things about myself: vegan, sagitarius, cyclist, ecologist, progressist (left-wing, anti-racist, feminist). @freelipemart (that's me on IG)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

The answer to this question has changed a lot over time:
When I started using the platform in 2015, backpacking through Europe, I thought it was to save on accommodation costs, but during the 6 months of traveling I realized that the financial gain was the smallest of all and that the big gift, in reality, was making friends and connecting with people who opened the doors of their homes to me, getting to know the places through a local person. After that, traveling without Couchsurfing became very boring.
When I decided to return to live in my hometown, Porto Alegre (Brazil), I began to receive travelers and be enchanted by their inspiring stories. It was a way to stay in touch with this traveling spirit. This was so important to me that I wanted to share it with people through my YouTube channel: http://bit.ly/2jkqYFC

Music, Movies, and Books

Music is very important to me. It's something I love to share with my hosts/guests, showing them the hidden gems of my country and discovering theirs.

Rock'n'roll: Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, ACDC, Iron Maiden, Rolling Stones, The Doors.
MPB: Lenine, Zeca Baleiro, Raul Seixas, Tim Maia, Jorge Ben Jor, Nação Zumbi, Otto, Almério, Mutantes, Chico César.
Rock Latino: Calle 13 (Puerto Rico), Aterciopelados (Colombia), Bomba Estereo (Colombia), Bersuit Vergarabat (Argentina), Molotov (Mexico),Cuatro Pesos de Propina (Uruguay), Francisco El Hombre ( Brazil-Mexico).

Y mucho más

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

- I enjoyed the first Carnival on the slopes of Olinda (Brazil). The best popular street party in the world.
- Working as an extra in Game of Thrones on the wall of the Night's Watch, sharing the scene with Jon Snow, Sam and Master Aemon. (North Ireland)
- Being hosted by a hippie in his van in Lagos (Portugal) and swimming naked with the friends I made there on a desert nudist beach and ending up in a hidden cave, one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.
- Spend a week in a freegan community in Vienna and do “dumpster diving”, that is, searching for good 'obsolete' food in the garbage bins of local markets.
- Take a ride in Cappadocia (Turkey) with an Australian woman and end up having a beer with her on the balcony of her cave house.

Teach, Learn, Share

Languages: I like to converse and practice the languages I already speak (Spanish and English). And now I am focused on learning French, it would be very interesting to be able to practice it too.
Music: I love conversations about music, where I can introduce some of my favorite artists and discover new sounds.
Experiences: I have some travel experiences that I love to share and discuss.
Gastronomy: I can prepare great vegan meals and snacks. :)
