About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To live slowly and simply, while keeping Tuburan Stay open as a space for connection
ABOUT ME
Hello, I’m Maki 👋🏽 I live on the island of Tablas, Romblon, where I’ve been slowly rewilding a former coconut farm into a more diverse and natural place. I run Tuburan Stay, a small, simple and nature-inspired bed and breakfast facing the sea. My days are usually spent working on the land and construction, trying to bring back native trees and plants, breaking away from monoculture, and letting the place become a living, breathing ecosystem again.
I believe in simple living, close to nature, with respect for stillness and balance. I enjoy sharing stories, good food, and quiet moments by the beach.
PHILOSOPHY
I believe in living simply, close to nature, and with awareness of what we take and give back. For me, Tuburan Stay is not only a place to sleep, but a space to reconnect with the land, the sea, and a slower rhythm of life. I try to nurture diversity here, planting native trees and allowing the land to heal from its past as a coconut monoculture.
I’m drawn to the idea that beauty lies in imperfection and impermanence, something I see reflected in wabi-sabi and in nature itself. Life feels fuller when it’s not about having more, but about seeing more in what’s already here.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I can host travelers at Tuburan Stay who are looking for more than just a bed a place to pause, connect with nature, and experience island life. I share what I can, some local knowledge, and quiet moments by the sea. My way of participating in Couchsurfing is by offering a welcoming, comfortable space that feels like home, even if only for a short while.
