About Me

Hi, my name is Frank! I live in Hilversum, the media city of the Netherlands - only 20 minutes away from Amsterdam.

I just came back from a 9 months travel through Latin America, where I surfed with Couchsurfers from 7 different countries. Now it's time to host people again in my own apartment :-)

Note: I live together with my friend Tim who is not on Couchsurfing

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on Couchsurfing to meet nice people from all over the place, to meet locals while travelling myself, to have good conversations, to laugh, and to learn!

I got to know about Couchsurfing in 2011, when I joined a Couchsurfing event in London, England. The first time someone hosted me was in 2014 in Buenos Aires, Argentina (thank you Carolina!). I have been hosting people in the Netherlands since the beginning of 2015.

I'm very much interested in journalism, and the role of journalists these days (I work for a Dutch TV news program on Dutch public TV). Next to that, I'm interested in some specific regions and countries in the world, such as Eastern Europe, the Balkans, the Baltics, South America, Germany, and Iran. Furthermore, I collect quality newspapers from countries that I visit (yes, really), I can spend hours on Google Maps planning a new travel, I like to take pictures, and I play table tennis (back home 3 hours per day and around 4 to 5 days per week, oops, addicted?!) :-)

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a huge fan of travel documentary series from the Dutch public broadcaster, such as Onze man in Teheran (about Iran), Langs de oevers van de Yangtze (about China) en Grensland (about Eastern Europe). If it comes to music, I like Mumford & Sons a lot. The latest book I read is from the Dutch journalist Joris Luyendijk.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Give up my job and apartment, travel through Latin America for 9 months and do a photo and documentary project (check out @fromcubatocolombia on Instagram and Facebook)!

Teach, Learn, Share

I could teach you Dutch, how to take pictures, how to play table tennis, I could tell you about journalism. Could you please talk in Spanish to me in return so that I won't forget the Spanish I once learned? :-)

What I Can Share with Hosts

Sorry, I can't cook well, but I'm always in for a nice chat.
