About Me

--- currently I'm in Panama ---

Hi, my name is Frank! I'm 25 years old, born in the east of the Netherlands. Last October, I quit my job to do a 9 months travel with my girlfriend Jelena ( through Latin America, starting in Cuba and ending in Colombia, crossing Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. If you are from one of those countries, it would be great to meet you!

Next to travelling, we are doing a photo and documentary project called From Cuba to Colombia about young people in Latin America. Find out more on and If you would like to participate, please contact us!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on Couchsurfing to meet nice people from all over the place, to meet locals while travelling myself, to have good conversations, to laugh, and to learn!

I got to know about Couchsurfing in 2011, when I joined a Couchsurfing event in London, England, and I directly started to like the idea behind this platform. The first time someone hosted me was in 2014 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I have been hosting people in the Netherlands since the beginning of 2015.

I'm very much interested in journalism, and the role of journalists these days. Next to that, I'm interested in some specific regions and countries in the world, such as Eastern Europe, the Balkans, the Baltics, South America, Germany, and Iran. Furthermore, I collect quality newspapers from countries that I visit (yes, really), I can spend hours on Google Maps planning a new travel, I like to take pictures, and I play table tennis (back home 3 hours per day and around 4 to 5 days per week, oops!) ;-)

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a huge fan of travel documentary series from the Dutch public broadcaster VPRO, such as Onze man in Teheran (about Iran), Langs de oevers van de Yangtze (about China) en Grensland (about Eastern Europe). If it comes to music, I like Mumford & Sons a lot. The latest books I read are from the Dutch journalists Joris Luyendijk and Jelle Brandt Corstius.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Buy a backpack, get on the the train from Amsterdam to London, and travel through the United Kingdom and Ireland for 3 months on my own. It was amazing, while being 19 years old, to actually find out that I like travelling so much. Being asked for a specific travel highlight, driving through the Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia, was very impressive to me! :-)

Teach, Learn, Share

I could teach you Dutch, how to take pictures, how to play table tennis, I could also tell you something about journalism. Could you please talk in Spanish to me in return?

What I Can Share with Hosts

Sorry, I can't cook well, but I'm always in for a nice chat.
