ABOUT ME
UPDATE!! UPDATE!!..opening up in April, but can't say exactly when.
Hello surfers! I'm now able to host again in this new year, after the break at the end of 2023. Presently, I may be hosting only single people as I need to consider the space available and the comfort to guests, but can host small families.. mum and maybe a (well behaved!) child?
I would say I'm a friendly and easy-going guy. Now retired, multiracial, hoping to visit other parts of this global village we call the world, and unashamedly socialist - with a small 's' - and deplore all the injustices we see in the world today!
PHILOSOPHY
"Do unto others, as others would have done to you"..if only we could live by this simple moral code, maybe the world would not be in the s**t we find ourselves in!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Have had some experience by now as host and guest. I love sharing and being of some help to others, so an idea like sharing your home for a few days with travellers from around the world doesn't worry me in the least, in fact it's a great pleasure and a great idea idea! What could be more interesting than starting a friendship this way, with a total stranger?
In my youth I have enjoyed the kindness of strangers when I was visiting places I had never been to, and that was really a positive thing to experience. By joining CS, I want to give back the same, and also meet people and see many more places, for as long as I can still get around!
IMPORTANT POINT TO NOTE
Please.. if you decide to stay at my home, then be aware that unless you CONFIRM your certainty at least 2 days before, I will consider it that you have found elsewhere to stay, as there may be someone else that may contact me in the time close to your non-confirmed interest. Sorry but this can happen, and you will lose out. Only last-minute interests will be accepted without a prior confirmation.. if there are no other guests, and if I'm around.
Also, I would appreciate it if you do stay at mine's, to write a couple of lines about your stay .. a word or two, or even constructive criticism, is equally welcomed in my book! This is important as future visitors do want to know if I have lived up to the spirit of the CS experience, which is my sincere intention . An unresponsive stay from a guest can be interpreted at best as laziness, and at worst, as uncaring. I will never fail to provide a feedback for hosts and guests; it's the least one can do!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Had my first Couchsurfing experience as a guest in St Petersburg, Russia. It was ok, but four days was never going to be enough, so went back a second time.. it was great!
Interests
I love to read, listen to music, go for walks, home life, cycling, am interested in the arts, eating out, cooking (baking!) travel - time and money permitting - and meeting new people from/in other countries, current world affairs. I'm an active person, and enjoy the outdoor, and big open green spaces. Learning to swim (someone please teach me..!).
Music, Movies, and Books
Not for me most of the racy, violent, Hollywood stuff, Scandi violent thrillers, etc. I prefer 'art' films: European and World Cinema; dramas, critical documentaries, some romance. I enjoy various kinds of music, pop, jazz, some classical too: rhythm is what I love, any kind that gets my feet tapping, yes! I enjoy both fiction and non-fiction books, and read a little every day.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Seeing the African wildlife in the big African savannah (the Ngorongoro Crater) on a brief visit there in my teens, and when much younger, being taken on some occasions to midnight big-game hunts ; wow.. exhilarating and frightening all in one! I'm now older and wiser and totally abhor all game hunting and violence, or cruelty towards all animals.
Teach, Learn, Share
I don't have any particular skill to share with anyone, but as I like languages, I would be happy to try that, and in the process maybe learn a little of another person's culture and language. As for sharing, it's the little things that sometimes count, and I'm always am happy to share time, a drink, a meal with others.. it's all good!
What I Can Share with Hosts
Hopefully a safe and comfortable experience, and friendly advice for my guests visiting London.
