About Me

I live in Seattle. I'm finishing up graduate school in less than a year and I am really, really hoping to get some good traveling time in after that. Come visit me and let me live vicariously through your trips in the meantime, please.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

When I lived in Beijing I hosted a bunch of people from all over the world. I really enjoyed the experience of getting to make a new buddy every week. I then moved back home, moved into progressively tinier and less convenient places, and eventually wasn't really able to host anymore. I sort of fell off this website for the past couple of years but I'd really like to get back into it starting soon!

Interests

Cycling, hiking, writing, reading, learning languages, meeting new people, meeting old people, abandoned structures, medicine and nursing, trying new things, sleeping in strange places, wandering about, dogs, cats, trains, history, philosophy, space travel.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: I mostly read textbooks these days, but I like science fiction. I read 2312 by Kim Stanley Robinson recently and that was awesome. Other than that, I really like non-fiction, especially anthropology, sociology, history (of China and other things), medicine, and other stuff.

Movies: hard to say. I really liked Milo and Otis when I was a kid but apparently it was produced in an extremely cruel way so I don't know what to think now!!! I think my favorite movie actually is Les Miserables, the one from the 90s or early 2000s with Liam Neeson as Jean Valjean. I have met absolutely no one else who ranks this as one of their top movies -- are you out there?!?!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'll write something here when I do anything that even remotely qualifies as amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: Chinese language and history. Primary care medicine. HIV epidemiology.

Learn: Your culture and country. Where to find the best beer in your neighborhood. Good crockpot recipes.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A cool item from whatever place I most directly came from!

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, China, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mongolia, Netherlands, Tanzania, Turkey, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In

China, Kenya, United States
