About Me

experience life to the fullest while causing the least possible harm

Deeply spiritual, without a religion but in totally in love with life! I've got the sort of laugh that makes you laugh, too, and an awkward sense of humor. Since my dad was a builder in the Navy, i moved around a lot and don't really have an attachment to "home" anywhere in particular.
I do what I need to do seems to be comfortable in my own skin, wherever I am.

Wow. The best way to describe my personal philosophy is to paraphrase the definition of vegan--as described by Donald Watson, "inventor" of the word--with a bit of Will Tuttle's wisdom and informed by my own experience.....

I seek to be engaged and empowered by my choices to cause the greatest good and least possible harm to others--including animals and the Earth--while sharing this amazing adventure with whomever is willing or open-minded to it.... :)

I tend to be positive because it's a beautiful world, full of awesome potential--see also the Desiderata. ;)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have gratefully surfed a few couches, and made some humble contributions to online discussions, but mostly I'm still just trying to figure out how to navigate this website! ;)

I'm in love with life, nature, spirituality. When camping, the plants and animals interest me, and i enjoy yoga and meditation "in the wild." As a sober person I spend time in fellowship with the worldwide community of "clean and sober" people, but not exclusively--many people can responsibly enjoy mood/mind altering substances and I like their company, too. As a former photojounalist, i love taking pictures and THINKING about articles I would like now to write. :) I am a passionate vegan advocate, certified as a facilitator for The World Peace Diet(Eating for Spiritual Health and Social Harmony, by Dr. Will Tuttle,) giving presentations and mentoring people who are curious. I spend time learning about "ways to protect the lives of people, animals, plants and minerals," to borrow the expression from Thich Nhat Hanh.

Music, Movies, and Books

This could quickly get too long--
all the presidents men and fight club and secretary.
morphine and tragically hip and the cure.
alice in wonderland and stranger in a strange land and hitchhikers guide to the galaxy--
these days i prefer "documentary" media.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One night in 2010, while camping near Grand Junction, Colorado, I was absolutely delighted to be perched on the edge of a stone cliff, witnessing a lightning storm without rain that lasted an hour. My beloved (and now departed) canine companion was safely in the car, though significntly less excited about "the show" than I was. :) Words utterly fail to describe the experience, suffice to say that is the sort of thing I really appreciate.

Teach, Learn, Share

i know enough to really question if there are more reasons to be vegan than ways and means of being vegan..... i am really bad at knitting...i could demonstrate techniques to "play" sudoku, dominoes, and--if you have cards--hearts and spades.
i'd like to learn about permaculture, stock-free farming, alternative energies.
Actually, i'm sort of a geek and like learning about anything from somebody who is experienced and passionate.
Oh. And i can coach meditation and yoga though i am not an expert in either.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Delicious, simple, nutritious vegan food.

I also love playing cards, backgammon, and Twister.
