Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To see things I've never seen, hear what I've never heard, learn about things I did not know existed, and make new friends while doing it.
ABOUT ME
We are calm, laid-back, open-minded, happy people. We have hosted high-school exchange students, which we loved to do, and missed them terribly when they left. It is what interested me in joining CS'ing.
We live a busy life, but taking time for others is a priority. We believe that many of the world's ills could be solved if different people could just get to know each other! We love to meet new people and try very hard to be good hosts so that you will know that Idaho is a very good place to be, even if it is "in the middle of nowhere"!
Being members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (yes, it used to be nicknamed Mormons, no, it's not a cult) we are a non-smoking, non-alcohol household. But don't let that worry you- we are also non-judgemental, accepting, and love to discuss life with people of all backgrounds.
PHILOSOPHY
100% integrity 100% of the time. Be honest with all men. Be responsible, considerate, kind, and helpful.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I hope you would like to come to visit the mountains on your way to anywhere. We are excited to meet people of all ages and from all across the globe. Please come and visit! I have met now-dear friends as I surfed in other countries and states.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
We have hosted many delightful people, learning from each one, and enjoying all of them. I enjoyed the hospitality of couch-surfers while in Ukraine, Russia, and Ireland. My favorite part of CSing in other countries is spending time with my hosts, seeing a part of life that I would not have seen without their eyes to guide me, as I learn to appreciate the diversity and hospitality of wonderful people. I now have some tales of CS'ing in the 'States as well- and all of it is good.
Interests
My husband, Ron, loves music and discussions He enjoys playing the keyboard and sings in small venues around the area. My interests include traveling and understanding different cultures, gardening, teaching, and anything new or unusual that I come across. Above all, I love to learn. I am currently studying Russian -it may take me the rest of my life to be able to hold a conversation in that language...but I will persevere! I am an entrepreneur with a nationwide online business (TheMightyMicrogreen.com) teaching kids, families, and individuals how to use microgreens to make healthy dietary changes. I love to teach. I also enjoy animals, cooking healthy meals, and meeting new friends.
Music, Movies, and Books
Second Hand Lions, Sound of Music, old classics.
Movies with clean language, uplifting stories and happy endings. Documentaries and foreign films...
Music:
New age, folk music of many different countries, Celtic, oldies, Neil Young, classical guitar, violin, cello, piano music.
Reading... not enough time to read all that we would like to. RIght now I am following the admonition to "Read out of the best books".
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Wild turkeys 50 feet up in snow-sparkling trees under a full moon; a baby octopus trapped in a tide-pool; a huge salamander walking down the street after a rain storm; the milky way at 4 in the morning; standing high above Lake Baikal on a hill in Siberia; watching a beautiful snail walk across the hand of a fascinated 4 year old child in Ukraine ... most of what I find truly amazing is provided by nature.
What amazing thing have I done? Considered jumping out of an airplane on my next birthday... 7/4/2013 EDITED: I finally jumped out of that airplane, and it was an incredible experience feeling the wind, watching the world, pulling the 'chute...Highly recommended experience for all those turning 55 years old! And, I traveled alone to Russia and Ukraine in 2012, my first time traveling since I was a child. It was one of the best experiences of my life...
Teach, Learn, Share
A horse is a prey animal, not a predator. He cannot be treated as you would treat a dog, because he has a different way of looking at life. To successfully get along with a horse, you must first understand how he thinks, and then assure the horse that you can be trusted to lead.
Humans have the same need. We must first seek to understand, and be trustworthy ourselves before we have the right to teach. I hope that I prove trustworthy in all things so I can do what I love to do- teach.
What I Can Share with Hosts
For those in other countries and cultures, a small picture of understanding of life in small-town America; a positive, open-minded, respectful curiosity about the things that are important to you. I will strive to be prompt, I will communicate clearly, and I will be kind, helpful, appreciative, and courteous while I stay in your home!
