About Me

My name is Guillaume, I am 27 years old and live in Bordeaux (France) since 7 years. Before that I lived in the north of France with my family until college and then left to finish my studies at Bordeaux.
I love being outside, walking, meeting people, discovering, and sharing beautiful moments. I cannot stand to be at home playing videogames and watching Netflix the whole night, if my day is no more than that I just considered it wasted. The same happens if the sun in shining and I stay inside.
Some people think I have a problem because no one would want to go out and do something every day or night after work (too tiering), but hey, here I am. (By the way, I don't think people are tired after work, I think that they don't feel alive).
To break this monotonous circle of "wake up - work - go home - eat - sleep" and flee the French checklist of "finding a well paied job - marry a girl - buy a house - have a child" I started traveling to prove to myself that life was more than that (and guess what, it is !).
So I guess that's me, here in South America, alone, but on a path I chosed to walk.
(If you want to know my occupation in Bordeaux, I am a software engineer, but I don't like to mention it first because the most interesting people I meet never start with their job, I guess I'm just trying to imitate that ^^)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am on Couchsurfing because even if I like being in hostels and meeting other travelers I would also like to meet and share memories with locals for a more authentic experience :)

Interests

I would be lying if I put another hobby than going out in first place. I do that EVERYDAY without exception. The last time I did nothing is so far away that I don't even remember when it was. By going out I don't mean going to a bar and get wasted (even if it happens sometimes to be honest), it's just leaving my appartement to go for a walk, to see a friend, to go to a concert, to go dancing, etc.. to sum up : to enjoy life :)

My other hobbies are
Classical Guitar, I started in 2005 and loved it, I mainly played fingerstyle of arrangements (you take a song and arrange it to make it all fit on one guitar)

Couple Dancing : Rock, Bachata, Salsa, West Coast Swing, and others. I started when I arrived in Bordeaux and can't imagine how I would do without it. It is the perfect balance between art, technic, and social.

Running, small distances from 5 to 10km, a good way to stay in shape while being outside and exploring or enjoying.

Bodyboard, I just started so I'm not good but I still enjoy it (just the pleasure to be in the water and watch the horizon, while trying not to die when waves are huge)

Videogames, I know I said that playing videogames whole day long was a wasted day but I still enjoy playing a bit sometimes. Nintendo fan since my childhood ;)

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to music at least 1 hour a day, so it will be hard to list everything, but here is what's passing through my head right now :
Muse
Coldplay
Oasis
Arctic Monkeys
Linkin Park
Twenty One Pilots
Queen
Jacques Brel
The Glitch Mob
Justice
Disclosure
The Beatles

And more
The music styles I mainly listen to are Rock, Pop, Indie Rock, Electro, Rap, Reggaetón and Bachata

I read something like a book a month, it can vary between computer science, to novels, passing by communication, psychology, finance.
My favourite book after Harry Potter (yeah, sorry :) ) is The Book Thief

I do not watch movies often but one I really like is 21 Jump Street

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can cook (not especially french ^^), offer you a drink at your favourite bar that you want to make me discover, teach you how to dance or play guitar, tell you everything you want to know about how it's like to live in France, or help you with your chores :)
